Your turn to take apart in the Two Act McCleary Farce will come less see you hit em. pop this No candidates have so far ped up for congressman in district, and it is safe to state that the present incumbent, J. T. McCleary, will have a clear field next year. He has made a spend id record for himself in congress and is recognized as a top-notch er.—Hills Crescent. If one should pop up, he could easily defeat McCleary, as his sec ond term was only a compliment tary and he will be a bottom notch er if the machine don't hold him up. A newspaper espousing the cause of any of the political part es lacks interest and individuality, likewise common sense, if it fails to see and record the misdeals of its own party men as well as those of some other political organiza tion. Such a newspaper loses its usefulness in that respect and no value is placed upon its opinion. Just because a newspaper happens to be pledged to the support of a certain political party is no reason why it shall countenance every po litical schemer in the party. The independent spirit of the country press in this regard is most en couraging. With such & condition W9 may look for oleaner pol itics.— Lake City Republican. Ther, stoo many that like to bo patted on the back. Following our comments on the appointment of postmaster here, the freron Lake Time? say8: We have a few lots left in Clary addition that we can-sell you on very easy terms. Some face east—some face south. Some of them.are 66x277 feet-some of them 72x174 feet. If you are ever coming to Worthington to live, you had better select your lot now and set out your trees and shrubs and then build when you get ready. We have $ one ten-acre block for sale that you can build on and have a small farm in town. Come in and talk it over with us. TERMS YERY EASY—PRICES REASONABLE. Thus do we see harmony in the ranks of the republican party in Minnesota. But say, Mr. Advance, what is the matter with the post office appointment in your town? Is not Mr. Coughran a good re publican so what more can you ask? It appears to us that' you are very exacting for a "dyed in the wool" republican. Harmony has prevailed fairly well up to the present time. Mr. Coughran as a man is all right and so far as *-we are concerned there is no animosity, but on gen eral principals he was not entitled to the position, Every effort pos sible is being made to smooth the matter over and effect a reconcila tion. The ADVANCE may not cut much figure in state or e\^n Nob les county politics, ("but there are others,") but judging from the ex pressions of conservative re publi cans and if they are not playing the McCleary act, there will be a deficiency in some candidates' ma jorities next fall if they succeed in getting on^the ticket, but so many people like to be "patted on the back" that they will tumble over themselves to do honor, ere the time rolls around. They have not got the backbone to practice, and carry out the Two Act McCleary Farce. There are several newspapers in Minnesota, nearly thirty to be ex plicit, which will repudiate the repblican nominations next year, unless a good strong ticket is put up.—Anoka Union. Nearly that number in this neck of woods, Bro.Pease.—Jackson Re public. And yet, Bro. Allen, the repub lican leaders ease their conscience and fears by believing and telling that next year, these heretofore re publican newspapers will all be in line working diligently and loyal for the ticket,' no matter who i3 nominated.1 If they do they ought to be fed on husks forever. Let the Union select one hundred country newspapers—the dailies may go to the devil-—who will ijband together in Minnesota, and it will wager a big sum that any ticket the republican bosses and teat suckers may put up will be buried by a good majority. All over the state, there is dissatisfact on With the republican party, its ways and its record. Money is its God, and it is a lamentable fact that nothing can be done without money. No bill, no matter how unimportant, could be .pass&L in the last legislature unless it was greased in its passage with stuff. The people be damned is» its motto and the people are getting weary and sore, and murmurmings are heard all over. 1898 is an off year and they feel and believe that a change can be accomplished with out injuring the national republi can party in 1900. They think a general housecleaning would be productive of good results, and they are willing to bring it about. Note the prediction, colonel.— Anoka Union.
