The construction on the extension will be commenced just as soon a& possible. W.J. Long, who has been ap pointed roadmaster of the Sioux Falls lines in place of H. Grahn, having resigned. She reports having a very pleasant visit while there. Mr. Robinson and wife and Mrs. Ewing, of Winnebago City, cousins of W. C. Barton, attended his fnneral at Ewington Sunday. Miss Sophia Sterling is now em ployed in H. E. Torrance & Bro.'s Big Store, Mrs. Aucutt having sever ed her connection with the firm. A rail in the side track along the Swedish Mercantile Co.'s elevater turned Monday morning and let an engine off the track into tbe mud. The Ladies Missionary Society of the Presbyterian church conducted the services at that church Sunday evening. Mrs. L. M. Bliss presiding. McLean was on the streets Saturday the first time for about two weeks, being laid up with some trou ble of the head. Mrs. G. W. Wheeler, mother of J. R. Wheeler, returned to her home at l?ringhar, Friday after a visit here with relatives. Douglass and Albinson have un loaded another car of western horses here. vThey are said to be better than those heretofore shipped in. Mrs Underwood, of Egan, S. D., and Mrs. Ewing, of Richland Center, Wis., came here Saturday to attend the funeral of their brother, W. C. Barton. Will Reese, formerly an operator here and now with the Omaha Co. at LeSueur, and a nephew of James Walker, came down Saturday to at tend the funeral of W. C. Barton. Jos. LoWe was before Squire Hob son Moi^day morning for some little differerence that occurred at a re ceut meeting of the O. of H, charged with disorderly conduct. He plead guilty and was fined $5, and costs, amounting to $7.45. John Sahlborn went to Minneapo lis Saturday to his child that is in the hospital there. He reports tbe chi is getting better which the fam ily's many friends will be glad to hear. Fred Wall went to Heron Lake Friday forenoon to meet his wife, re turning on the afternoon train. They will live in the house near Albinson & Boberg's lumber yard, vacated by R. H. Belknap. A party was tendered James Gib son at the home of H. M. Palm Fri day by the C. E. choir for his faith ful services. He was presented with an elegant tie and a fine scarf-pin. Refreshments was served and a pleasurable time enjoyed. Mrs. E. W. Coughran and daughter returned home Friday afternoon. In addition' to a pleasure trip they came over to have some dental work done by Dr. J. R.Conwav. This speaks well for the doctor when people come here from a town like Sioux Falls for dentestry. The Luverne Bowling team got away with the Worthington team in the contest Fridyy. Messrs. Rose, Ramage, Bitner, Maxwell and Mackay composed the Worthington team. In the evening the Luverne people plaeed two fresh men in the game which gave them an an advantage. Five games were played, Luverne winning by forty pins. Mrs. Wilson Aull and eon Wilson lelt Monday morning for Minneapo lis. The week pf self denial with the Salvation Army closed last Sunday, over $60 was raised for missionary purposes. M. J. Barber has parchaeed the Jos. Lowe property adjoining W. Aagaard's new residence. Mr. Lowe will move his house out onto his farm. It is expected that Mr. Barber will erect a residence there. U. F. Hansberger sold John Hardin a handsome new piano last week. Carl Palm went to Minneapolis Saturday night to purchase a car load of furniture. M. E. Kannal of Iowa, brother of A. J. arrived here Saturday to assist his brother ip the painting and paper hanging line. Dr. P. T. Geyerman who has been in a hospital in St. Paul has located in Worthington going into partner ship with Dr. Dolan. Mr. Geyerman is well and favorably known in this vicinity and with his ability will un doubtedly have deserved success. Landlord Doolittle, of the Worth ington Hotel has placed a large syphonium in the office.' The instru ment stands about six feet high with corresponding proportions. The music rendered is very entertaining. The popular landlord never loses an opportunity to entertain his guests. Officer Bryan was among those fortunate in receiving a prize at the BO8CO entertainment Saturday night. He drew a package of wheat-o and left it at the Western House uptil he could take it home. While it was there the boys opened the package pouring out the contents, filled it with bran and salt. Branigan's large store is being handsomely papered and painted which makes it much, pleasanter and permits the showing of his large stock of goods to better advantage. Cunninghan and Ned Jones and Misses Penney and Watson went to Sioux City Thursday night to see one of Shakesperes plays, "A Winter's Tale," played there. James Ramage and James Mackay and wives, Fred Rose, Fred Bitner and Willis Maxwell went to Luverne Friday morning to take part in the Bowling contest there. W. B. Hibbard returned home Thursday, Mrs. Hibbard remaining for a week or so. It is his mother that was sick instead of father. She was not much better when he left, being affected with heart trouble. The young peoples' aid society of the Evangelical church met at Rev. Schmidt's Thursday evening, and after the close of the meeting they were given a rousing sleighride by Frank Schmidt and Henry Eriech. It was reported that Mrs. Lawren ce's, who lives a few miles in the country, horses wete affected with some disease. Veterinary J. N. Gould was called and examined them and proneunced them all in a souud con dition with no iudications at all of any kind. F. R. Patterson went to St. James Friday afternoon. F. C.
