Wishikqton. March 23 Admiral Porter in
a dispatch, say he baa received information
from Lieut Commander Watson Smith that
on the 7th inst, the whole expedition arrive
in the Tallahatchie, which gives us the ' con
trol of the heart of Mississippi.
The vessels all cot through in lighting con
dilion, excepting the Petral, which lost her
wheel entirely.

alarmed the rebels as they are energetically
at work preparing themselves against all con
