JTTb New York Tribune has a letter
from Keweenaw Point, Lake Superior, men
tioning the the death of Wra. Schlatter, whose
name it attached to so mnry of the maps,
plans and sketches of that mining region.
He had started from the northern extremity
of the Point to walk through the furcBt to
Quinby Mine, on Portage Lake, and evidently
had lost his way. After wandering for a lime
he became overpowered with the cold, and
length laid himself down beneath a tree,
stretched out his legs, folded his arms across
his breast, and fell asleep, and in this endless
sleep he was found by a passing traveller.
Robert Hall did not lose his powers of re
tort even in madness. A hypocritical condo
ler with his misfortunes once visited him in
madhouse, and said' in a whining tone, "What
broughtyou here, Mr. Hall ?" Hall significant
ly touched his brow with his finger, and repli
ed, "What 11 never bring you, sir too much
