The Perrysburg Board of Education. , 6 For ini limo pal ronsiderubto talk has prj Tailed anmng Ihc jtax payerj of IVrrvshuig, re garding tho use ni.ido of tlie selnad fun Is by tho Hoard of Education, That disatisfariinn cul tninnted aomo tima sisee, in an anoiiynioiM com mnnication t Ihia paper, in v,hich Ah writer by the process of niifrWu alleges acts of mal-aduiin-jstralion against the Board, which If true, should have disqualified them for holding office. On tes ting the question of (Tences implied In that com munication, we cannot find the farts In .-onflnna-tiun. For instance, it was implied that tho Treas urer of the Board bad made an improper use of Ihe school funds in speculations for his own benefit. So far from that being the case, ho had actually borrowed m .nicy on his own credit to meel the de ficiency In currant expenses of the school, tho 12 mills levy not having been realixed at that time. Our authority in this slalom -nl is Jons A-Ronnilt,, Ejq., County Treasurer, through w hom the school money is paid to the Treasurer of the Hoard. In like manner the allegations that TIkSkv Thorn ton had been paid for worthless brick mere do. biis-was entirely incorrect. Mr. Thornton is well known in this community as a fair dealing, and an honorable man, and he a (linns that he cnn traded with the Hoard to" sell them M0.000 mer chantable brick, at $9 per 1,000, nrh as would meet the approval of the architect to bo employed by the Hoard. Now we re-ipoctfiillv submit that cilixi'iis should act jnstlv towards their public, servants, as well as claim justice from them. The propriety or Impropriety of in enrring tho largo debt requisite to tho erection of tho new seh'ml-hoine, are questions for tho con- ' sideralion of the tax-payors themselves. One thing, however, wo desire tn say, namely, that the condition of the present school-house, is a disgrace to Terrysbnrg, nn 1 improvements of some sort must bo accomplished forthwith. With a view to the Information of tho Perrys bnrg tax-payers, we have copied the following details from tho Journal of tho Hoard, which ill Indicate the authority under which they havo acted,' " ' Tho first steps towards improving tho school property nero taken at tho animal meeting of tho School Hoard, on Jan. 1 j, 18:18, when on the mo tion of Mr. AsnKH Cook, a tax of 12 mills on the valuation of $270,7-111 w as ordered lo bo levied to defray the expenses of running the school during the year, and for paying oil' indebtedness. On mo tion of Mr. Cook, nt that san.o ine.-iiii.', further amount of 10 mills on the dollar, w is ordered to be levied lo defray the vxpenres of enlarging and repairing the school-house. The money so raised t be under the control of the Hoard of Kliiratioii, This was tlie starting p lnt fu in which the Hoard entered on their plan of improvement. At the annual mooting held in the school-home, June 2-', 18(57, further action was t.ikrn as follows: On the motion of Mr. Dow; e, the Hoiiid were in stiuetod to ehii'l some coni (lent person to make a plat of tho Union Schi ol Pistiiet, und re poll the .game under authority. This was done in order to prcso.it for taxation all eligible property in the .School District. At the same meeting, Col. J. A. Shannon undo a motion that a levy of 4 mills 011 tho dollar be made for .fifition pnrposas, and 18 mills 011 the dollar for building purposes. Tlie motion was adopted. On tho strength of these levies, and by the ex press sanction of tho citizens, at theii animal meet ing, the Hoard proceeded to act in the matter to tho best of their judgment. Dooming it for tho best interests of l'errysburg to erect a new school- house, which should both meet the nocess:ies of our si-li i). 1 , and be an ornament to tho place, they employed C C Mil.LKK.Egq., of Toled 1, to fur 11UI1 plans and specifications for tho schoi.l build, iug. Having their plan to guide them on tho 18tV 1807, nt a in meting of the Hoard, a resolution wa8 passed that a notice bo published in the Jorits.vi. fm sealed proposals, specifying tho am unit for which parties would complete tho enlargement of the I'errvshurg School House. The Hoard reser ving tho 1 ight to accept or exclude any of them. In accordance with and in reply to tilth adver. lisenunt, the f allowing proposals were received. E & A. [Correspondence Perrysburg Journal.] BOWLING GREEN, Feb. 16. Mr. EniTOR : Our Presbyterian friends had a very pleasant reunion in Mammoth Hall, last even ing, in the shape of a douation und an " 0 lit Folks' Concert," for the benefit of their pastor, the Rev, It. G. McCarthy. The hall was beautifully adorned with pnintingi, engravings and ever greens, und brilliantly illuminated,. In duo time u full and happy throng filled tho hall. A largo del egation from Tontogany came over, and a few from Weston, and were cordially welcomed and made at home. The curtain arose, and tho" Old Folks " in ancient costumo sarfg " Atilil Lang Sine." Th n followed many other well-rendured pieces if modern and ancient song, accompanied ty and interspersed with fine piano music, by Miss Fran ces Williams, vho by tho way has few superi ors in that line. After we had our fill of music and all had f.(ea the " elephant," of which friend C. was the model showman, refreshments wore served to the entire company. Friends Rked and Rogers, had extern. p r'.ied a kitchen out of the, to be, jury-rooms, by putting up a large cooking stove so, " hut eofl'eo " u-as found as fast as wanted. After all had ealun and drank their fill, a cake was presented In tho pastor and another to the printer (you seo Mr. ed itor we do not forgot our printer) without form or ceremony. Then old folks, and young folks all joined in singing Old Hundred, and so ended one of the pleasaulest donations it was ever my for tune to attend. The receipts of tlie evening were, I belicve Eighty-five dollars, all in good legal tender. There is not much news in our " l'raiio Village" of course our people were highly elated last week, over the decision of the Supreme Court. Some powder was burned, some oysters eatrn, and a good deal of hand-shaking and hurrahing done, but it in not to be expected, Mr. editor, that you are very much interesested in this, so I will pass. SILEX. Personal. a We learn that A copartnership, for the practice of law, in Toledo, has been formed betiveeli Major J. F. I'mct, of this place, and G. F. IlAiNss.Esq., of Toledo. Early in the war he relinquished the profession of luw and entered the ajrmy as I'ayumster, conliuu ing in thai position nnlil the close of the rebellion. The Illue Coatt, An I how they Li i'u 1 Fought and Died for the Union; with Scenes aud Incidents in the Great Rebellion, is the title of a handsome volume, jitt issued by Jones IIiiotiiehs & Co., Cincinnati, O. There is a certain p irtion of tho War that will never go into tho regular histoiies, nor be cm bodied in romance or poetry, which is a very real part of it, and will, if preserved, convey t, suc ceeding generations a better idea of the spirit of the conflict than many dry rf ports or careful nar ratives of events, and this part .may he called ihe gossip, tho fun, the pathos of the War. Thigitlut trato's the character of tho leaders, the humor of tlie Soldiers, tho devotion of women, tho bravery of men. the pluck of our heroes, the romance and hardships of the service. From the bt-ginuiug ol the war, tho author has been engaged in collect ing all the anecdotes connected with or illustru live of it, and has grouped and classified litem under appropriate heads, aud iu a very attractive form.
