ftOur esteemed Iricnd and valued contributor
"L." has some exquisite verses on the first pi-fre u
to-day's paper. How beautifully he portrays de
parting yo uth in the sixth verse-thus:
"We seem to see youth disappear;
We ask at last some parting words;
Wo listen but we only hear
Tho lurewell music of the birds,
For they, is thou and youth's young prime,
Hive gone to seek some ennnicr clime."
What a beautiful picture of November io
prcoented in tho following- lines which we
find in Pulman for Aovcmber. Like most of
the good poetry in that excellent magazine,
it it from the pen of I. Ka ktsahoo.
1 ne wild November comes at last
lit iii-iii h a vail of rain;
The night wind blows its folds siido---
Her lac- is full of pain.
The latest of tier race, she takes
The autumn's TOO ant throne:
She has but one short moon to live,
And ibt must live a loncl
A l atren realm tif withered fields;
Bleak woods and tailing IttVtt
The palest morns that ttaf dawnod;
The dreariest u I eves.
It is no wonder that she cbtnes,
1'oor month! w ith tl ais ol pain;
For what can one so hopeless do
Hut weep, and waj again!

Gov. MiiDttL has appointed the SBd inut , 1
as "a day of 'I'lianksgiving to Almighty God
for the manifuld bleating of the year which is
about to close "
Thin it peculiarly fitting, for if a people
ever hod cause to thank the Great Giver of j
all good for mercies received it is us. Let tho
day be religiously observed all over Belmont
county, at least.
Mr. Editor: About two years ago t was
visited by a gentleman who informed me that
he wus about to publish a Chronological
Work, compiled lor the use of Schools, and
for reference in families, and he permitted
me to examine his plan in MS. which he had
then with him. Since then I learn he has
published Ins work, I think in your office.
Being interested in its success, and desirous
' of seeing it genertlly introduced into schools
ni family libraries, 1 wish you would in
lorm me where the work can be procured.
