Among tb mauy mutual tocietie? organized during th past levr yeara none hav beta more cordially roeeirod than th Ancltnt Ordar of United Work men. It had its beginalng at Meadyillo Pa., some eTateen ytari ago and from , that time until the present the hlstety of the erder has been onward and up ward and now Its membership extends to every state in the Union. A short time ago to further increase the useful ness of the order and enable members to .secure additional insurance a higher branch was organized known as Select Knights and it promises to become as popular as the parent organization. Temple Lodge Obnervet the Cflth Annlver ary. April 2Gth, the 00th anniversary of the establishment of the first Oddfellows lodga in America occurring on Sunday the Lodge departed from their usual form of celebration by holding religious exercises at the Town Hall. At 3 o'clock p. m. the Hall wis com fortabiy filled with citizers and the members of the Order, to the number of about fifty, clothed in their new and tiliowy regalia, formed in procession at the Lodge room and proceeding to the hall, and after prayer and appropriate music were addressed by the Rev. R. M. Thompson. To those who know Mr. Thompson we ' need not remark that the lecture was eloquent and full of information .and interest to others as well as to members of the order. The choir consisting of Mr. Lent, Mrs. Rollo and Miss Paddock, assisted by Miss Clover by their skillful rendition of several anthems added much to the enjoyment of the occasion. From Mr. Thompson's remarks we learn that there are now more than one half million members 'of the order un der the jurisdiction of the Sovereign Grand Lodge of the United Status. That the lodges have a revenue exceeding five million dollars, a greater part of which is expended indirectly carrying out tke fundamental principles ef thsOrder.Mz to visit tho sick, relieve the distressed, bury the dead and odncate tho orphan. The Sovereign Grand Lodge has the more immediate jurisdiction over the grand lodges of the United States and Canada, at the same time having a cer tain authority over graud and supreme grand lodges in Europe, Australia, and South America. The various English Orders of Oddfellows do not spread much beyond the British Islands. The younger members of the Lodge and some of the older ones with their friends enjoyed themselves exceedingly at a hop at the Lodge Room on Monday night. The floor was somewhat crowd ed to accommodate the many dancers but all were good natured and every thing passed off as merrily as a mar riage bell. MA. It INK. The tug Charles E.
