WILLIE'S CHRISTMAS GIFT.
.-
")Ue, tell Harry and Jennie and
WniieTo'c6rne into the library; and
be real.stil about it,' for I want to
tell, you all a secret," whispered Su
sie Lee to her brother, one morning
after breakfast. Mrs. Lee had gone
out to do some shopping, so the chil
dren had a good time for their secret
convention. As soon as they were
all-in the room, Susie, who seemed
to be the only one who understood
the secret, began to tell them what
it was. "You know," he said, "it
is a'most Christmas time, and we al
ways have some nice presents on
Christmas. You think it is Krist
Kringle who sends them to, us, but
I've found out where they come
from! It is our father and mother
who give them to us."
"No it isn't, it is Krist Kringle,"
snouted Willie.
"I'lflell you how it is, little bro
ther," said Susie. "Do you know
'whafc.Christmas is?" .
"lts a day when we get ever so
many goodies!"
"That's not all of it, Willie. It is
the .birthday of Christ. God, the
good, gave Him to come into this
world, where we are all wicked, and
help us, .to be good like, Him. So
He-was. God's gift to us and Krist is
6nly anVther name for Christ. And
you know all, our good things come
from Him. God puts it into the
hearts, of our parents to give them
to us. And J think that as they al
ways give us presents, we ought to
give them some too. It will make
them know that we love them."
' "Oh,,yes.V cried all the rest; "let
siis give.them some Christmas gifts,
too."-
Where will we get money en-
- ough to buy things that will please
big folks?" asked 'Harry, r -1
"And what can we get that; thty
wil! like?" said Jennie.
,r; ."Susie can-tell the best," said Al-
"Tie; "let her make a plan for Us. We
ought to, for she was the first one to
think-ofit"
"1 think thev would like some-
thing that we make ourselves bet
ter tftan anything we can pur-
, So it wis agreed by all that they
should each make something for this
object, and give their parents a plea
sant surprise. Ihere were a great
many sly talks in corners, and a great
-deal of quiet work going on for a few
weeks. There was an unusual ain't
of painting and drawing done, nee
die cases, work-boxes, pincushions
and slippers made. But there' was
one little curly head which could
. think of nothing good enough to give
"Mamma," and the lace ol little W U
die was sometimes very sad as he
5aw the others doing so much. The
little hands were busy helping all
they could, and the little leet ran
quickly when there was something
needed to aid in the work ol love,
On Christmas morning, after their
own sifts had been discussed, they
cava their presents, and a surprise it
was, indeed, to the glad parents.
rAH but Willie. He had hidden be
rliind 'his Mothers chair,-and remain
ed there until the rest had gone Horn
'"the room. Then came timidly and
laid a ? little paper in his mother
"hand
"Mamma," he said, in a trembling
voice, "1-couldn't make you any
thing, but 1 love you just as well.
I could not think of anything else to
give you, so I've brought yon one of
my pretty curls. l it good enougn
for a Christmas present, mamma?"
There it lav. the beautitul colden
ringlet which bad hung about the
face of her darling. Tears came to
the moiKei's eyes as she took it; not
tears of sorrow, but of gladness of
joy for the bve of the precious child,
which knew of no way to express it
aalf but bv a curl.
"Yes, Willie, darling," she said,
as she pressed him fondly to her
Heart; "vou love mamma, and that
is enougVfor a Christmas gift."
Warm kisses she pressed upon his
brow; and -told him-beautiful things
as the little arma clasped her neck,
till Jier darling nestled down against
herheaVt and slept. No child ever
faave 'its' mother a better, richer
Christmas gift, than little Willie, for
he gave her his heart and love.wnich
were more precious to her than all
the cosily things that wealth could
possibly purchase.
