Swaying, srvayin, softly swaying in the sea- tveed scented breeze, Gazing at tho sunlight, Hinging golden glances through the trees, Listening to the drowsy droning of tho never tired bees. There's some magic in the motion, soma strange spell rro do not know. A weird power it has to conjecture visions up from long ago, By its swinging cradle motion, slowly, softly to and fro. All the world of work and wisdom iac3 be hind us, it is naught, Clear before our charmed vision, Spanish castles rise unsought, And the shadow land 13 round us, and the realm of dreamy thought What is this strange power that holds us? Tis some silent, subtle spell, Born of swaying, ever swaying, lika tho toll ing of a bell, Or the rocking of the ocean, and tho salty seaweed smell Lying lazfly, we linger in the land of day dreams bright, Drinking deep from fancy's fountain, draughts of quiet, calm delight. Till tho eastward lengthening shadows warn us of the coming night Still we linger, scarcely heeding how tho happy moments go, What caro we for timo that passes? Wo are swinging to and fro, With that magic cradlo motion, swaying, swaying soft and slow. '-K. M. M.," in N. Y. Mail and Express. Fon Plctnre of LonUe MlcboL Finally we reach the top. For a moment wo pause. It seems a rude break on our reveries of cleanliness, sweetness and pret tiness to meet this woman. For all people havo told us she is such a dreadful person, so unkempt and uncanny. However, we are in for it now. So we give a sniff at onr roses, and, falteringly, knock. At once tho door is opened, and wo see this troublesome person, who replica to our query: "Yes, I am Louisa Michel, pray enter." Then wo present tho roses. She is overjoyed, her face lights up, her voice grows softer, and before she will say one word more she fetches a jug of water for tho roses. During this timo wo photo graph her on our mental camera. A tall woman with a slight stoop. Feet encased in coarse wool plaited slippers. The whitest stockings possible, a black alpaca skirt to her ankles. A piquet dressing jacket f dark spotted pattern, mado very large, indeed slouchy, yet clean, shining from recent ironing. Black hair with a few white threads, cut short, lying in loose waves to the neck; a pale, oval faco, strong, decided features; in tho throat that painful swelling a curse to Franco, in tho way of national diseases, known as the "goitre," and above all tho most marvelous eyes I've ever seen keen, expressive, deep, gray-black, veritable windows of tho grand soul looking defiantly through them. Not a feminine, yet not a masculine woman. A lioness, yet as often a lamb. The former nature showing itself in her firm handling of subjects to bo canvassed, her hatred of oppression, her fanaticism, if you wilL The latter nature seen immediately in tho affectionate way sho takes to arrange tho posies effectively, and, as sha seats her self, in the trick sho has of placing one of her long, firm bands restfully within the other, in an attitude of gentle listening, in congruously, perhaps, reminding one of some student at a college class. A voico which fills your ears with harmonious inflections and has a magnetic power, also, of filling Hho soul within tho sense" of whoever is addressed. This is Louisa Michel. Paris Cor. Boston Herald. Oar Congressmen and Their Salaries. When a member dies his pay ceases on the day of his death. Tho salary of the successor commences the day after the decease of tho former member, though tho election may not occur for several months. Thero are probaMy twenty of tho present house who let their salaries run into nest eggs. Thero are a couple of dozen members who always over draw, or rather, borrow from the head of the bank. They borrow or get in advance sums ranging from 10 to $300, and at the end of tho month they havo nothing. The great majority of tho members draw ell that is coming to them at the end of each month, partict'Hrly thoso who havo their families wi.h ' i Some of them never see an out side l , but let their monthly salaries re main, ia draw it out in small sums. German Soeictien Opposed to U-ury. To a number of bocieties formed in various large towns in Germany for tho snpprosion of usury, may now be added another ono about to form m Berlin. Theys societies havo for object to become a neutral rallying point for persons of all parties and confes sions, and to collect material for tho orpesure of usurious establishments, on tho supposition that in most cases a falso shame prevents the ruined victims from holding their sordid plunderers responsible. Boston Budget. A Sight at Kccentrlo InterestExtra ordinary DoToIopment of Hair. Among the many sights from distant countries to be seen in London at present there is one of eccentric interest, especially to the ethnologist and tho medical man; wo re fer to tho hairy family from Burmah, which is now exhibited at tho Egyptian hall. It is alleged that Mr. Barnum had endeavored to induce the family to leave Burmah for exhi bition some time since without success. This has been accomplished by the course of re cent events in the kingdom of King Thcebaw. In Mr. Crawford's 'Embassy to tho Court of Ava," he mentions that be saw, at the Bur mese court, a man, 30 years old, with his whole body, except the hands and feet, covered with straight, silky hair, which, on the spine, was five inches in length. At birth tho can. alone were covered. It is stated that at birth hair several inches in length was found to be growing from the tympanum of each car of this man's daughter. There are two individ uals, the mother, Mabphoon, daughter of Shway-Moung. the homo hirsutus describxl and depicted in Crawford's narrative, which CoL Yule quotes in his work on tho ""Court of Ava,"1 and Mahphoon's son, Moung Phoset. Tho latter is accompanied by his wife, a Bur mese woman, of good-humored appearance, who appears, as the exhibitor states, to tako a pride in her extraordinary husband. The mother of the latter, who is now blind, is in charge of a young Burmese attendant. Notwithstanding tho strange appearance of both mother and son, there is nothing savage or wild in their manners. Each member of the family, it seems, had peculiar privileges at that court for three generations. The ab sence of molar teeth in Moung Phoset en gages attention, as well as the extraordinary development of hair, especially oa the face, including the nose, forehead and ears; adding another examplo of the observation of Dar win, on the occurrence of an abnormal de velopment of the taeth. There appears to be no record of any supposed first influence hav ing been an agent in tha appearance of this j remarkable family's peculiarity. aruasb Medical JoqtbW. 01 1 WIN 1 CAPITAL, $100,000.
