Safeguards for Cur Children.
During vacation children need as nearly a
purely animal life as they can have, until we
learn to order their days all through the year
with a proper regard to tho best methods of
study and plaj-. They should have a vacation
daily, not fhreo times a year. Isb ono under
tho meridian of lifo should know what nerves,
as wo call them to-day, are. Nerve, proper,
is what wo all need, but wo improperly apply
tho term to a condition under normal. Chil
dren should never be nervous, and they rasely
will be, with a good inheritance, if they grow
symmetrically. In America, nobody lives
and nothing is dono in asymmetrical manner,
and the best civilizations have failed to de
velop inind and lxdy harmoniously. To-day
tho tendency, especially among childien, i
too much intellectual v. os k, not because tho
brain is too sensitive, but "because body and
brain are not inado to grow together.
There are too many factors m tho roaring
of children judiciously, for rules to bo made,
except in a general way, but our cliildren
should bo as frcbh July 1 as they are Sept 1,
and they can be so only by our givir-g their
minds rest while their bodies juo growing,
and their bodies a chance to grow, by long
hours of sleep and by perfect freedom from
social restraints and from the restraints of
dress, with bimply nutritious food, such as
milk, coarso cereal foods, little meat, fruits,
foods with sugar generously mixed, pure air
and plenty of love, w hilo we cultivate their
moral natures by admirtura of teachings and
examples that will enable them to live unsel
fish lives, such as will prompt them to help
others as well as themselves. An uncon
sciousness of self should Le a part of a child's
nature. Boston Transcript.
