Hon. T. Dwight Thatcher, state printer,
who delivered an addre-s beforo the conven
tion last night, and which will be found
elsewhere, made us a cull yesterday. His
subject, "Tho relation of the press to pub
lic sanitation,"' while a new one, probably, at
least an unusual one, was handled in that
scholarly and thoughtful manner for which
Mr. Thatches is so justly famed throughout
the state. The fact is, no subject, in his
hands can fail of proving entertaining and
instructive.
Dr. Tucker of Derby, who has just return
ed from Wyoming, Washington, Oregon,
Utah, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, and the
entire west, a trip consuming some five or
six weeks, was m the city yesterday. He
says he saw soma pretty valleys and coun
tries, circumscribed, but when one gets
right down to the facts the Arkansas valley
is hard to equal, let alone beat. He found
places whose climate scorned delightful, and
again others with rich soils, etc., but no
place taken all in all to compare with the
Nile of America.
Drs. Schenck of Osage City and Redden of
Topeka, two prominent members of the state
boai d of health who are attending the Sanit
ary Con veuti on, called j'Osterday afternoon to
give the editor of the Eagle a good natured
but sound going over for not having aroused
a little more interest touching the impor
tance of the convention now in session. We
pleaded guilt', but excused our people on the
ground of a great rush of business and a
sudden advance in the prico of suburban
pi operty owing to tho news that Gould had
bought the Arkansas Valley railway. The
truth of the matter i, AVicbita will have to
experience a little sickness before she will
take the proper interest in sanitary move
ments. Secure your tickets for the concert, on sale
at E. Vails-, Talmadge & Co.'s and Robert
Jack's clothing house. Tickets 50 cents.
