SENATE STRIPS ' OFF JUDGE ARCHIBALD Federal Jurist is Found Guilty Five of the Thirteen Counts Against Him. By Associated Press. WASHINGTON, Jan. 13 Robert VY. Archbald 'of Scranton, Pi, for 29 years a jurist was adjudged guil ty by the United States Senate of "high crimes and misdemeanors" Stripped of his office and forever disqualified from holding positions of public honor and trust. Upon five of the thirteen charges trought against him by the House, Archbald was found guilty. On the other eight he was found not guilty. A majority of the Senate in some cases was against him but failed of the two-thirds necessary for con viction. Any one of the five indict ments of guilty was enough to "bring about the punishment impos ed. The vote on the first charge, in fluencing corruptly the officials of the Erie railroad to sell him the "Katydid culm dump, resulted in his conviction 68 to 5. The second charge was not sustained by two votes, and on the third he was con victed 60 to 11; the fourth guilty, 52 to 20; the fifth, guilty 66 to 6. On the thirteenth charge many asked to be excused from voting because the charges were too general. The vote was guilty 42 to 20. On the charge that Archbald had accepted wrong fully a purse of $500 raised among Scranton attorneys the vote was 65 not guilty to one guilty. The single vote was cast by Ashurst of Ari zona. SILVER.
