Warren F. Day, assistant post
master for Prescott, has been ap
pointed postmaster by President
Harding, news of the appointment
reaching Postmaster A. J. Her'ndon
yesterday, from Senator Cameron.
It is expected that Mr. Day will re
ceive confirmation of his appoint
ment today.
Upon receipt of word that Mr.
Day, for six years first assistant
postmaster and for 22 years a highly
valued employe of the local post
office, had received the appointment,
Postmaster Herndon wired Senator
Cameron congratulating him upon
this action. To a representative of
the Journal-Miner, Mr. Herndon
said yesterday:
"Mr. Day is a very efficient man,
one of the most capable men, a man
of splendid habits. Everyone in the
postoffice is delighted at his ad
vancement." Mr. Day has been in the postal
service 22 years. Born in San Fran
cisco, he has lived in Prescott long
enough to be considered a native,
having come to this city with her
parents, Dr. and Mrs. Warren E.
Day, at the age of six years. The
family came to Arizona when Mr.
Day was but three or four years old,
living at Hackberry until their re
moval to Prescott
.Always a valued member of the
losal.postoffice force, Mr. Day, then
a clerk, was made first assistant
postmaster in 1916, under Postmaster
Herndon, since which time he has
filled the position very capably. He
will take office as postmaster after
the first of the year.
Postmaster Herndon yesterday ex
pressed the greatest satisfaction, not
only at Mr. Day's appointment as his
successor, but with the assistance he
has received during his term as post
master from his assistants.
"In my entire service,"" he said, "I
have never had to give a postal em
ploye a demerit. Service and co
operation of the heartiest kind have
always been given me, and we in the
postoffice have worked together for
the efficient management of the of
fice. You can see that harmony has
prevailed, when you learn that the
Prescott postoffice is the only office
in Arizona that shows a plus-100 per
cent rating on the postal department
We, the undersigned, the Board of Supervisors of Yavapai County, Arizona, acting as a Board of Canvassers, hereby certify that the foregoing "

records at Washington, as I had the
pleasure nf irnminj dnnrtfi' my re-
ccnt visit at the capital.
"Mr. Day is a most efficient postal
worker. Not once does he have to
refer to the department regulations
he has them in his head. He and
the other 15 employes of this office
deserve the highest praise for their
work."
Mr. Herndon contemplates entering
the life insurance business upon the
expiration of his term as postmaster.
Himself an efficient postmaster, and
having given general satisfaction to
the public, he now has received a
number of proposals from life insur
ance companies, among which are of
fers to take over the management of
southern Arizona for one company
and the manager of California for the
Kansas Life Insurance company. He
has not decided yet what offer he
will accept, except to declare:
"I will not leave Prescott You
couldn't move me" out of Prescott
What offer I accept will depend
largely upon the condition of my re
maining a citizen of the Mile. High
city."
