A Niagara letter wys :
'l'lie excitement during Hie iaft month

Ifave her fifth exhibition on (lie high

the rae nt Niagara, ami nint h iit ttcil by
the ladies, as they thoroughly Hjipreciate
the magnitude ot the iH'rforinanee flie
husjii't coniplelrHl, I'eennlarily it has
not lt-n sueh a bhc , m with the ex
ception of a few clear-headed individual
that saw ttie benefit to the town derived
from the walks of M'lle Spelterini, her
mbscription lint was. very thinly tilled,
and even then one-third oftho.se who put
their names down declined to pay when
the collector paid them a visit. The roje
on which MTIe SjH-lterinl walked is 1000
feet long ami was stretched across the
gorge of the rapids about 300 feet below
the railroad bridge. At that oiut fehe
was walking about 200 let t above the
rapid, running water. On each occasion
that MT1 SjK'lterini has performed she
has executed her difllcuit task w ithout
the blight est mistake, although once or
twice she had to encounter some
epecial danger. A sunstroke on the
street is not very pleasant, and on a
rope 200 leet over water would
be likely to unnerve a per
son, but the youri girl went down on
one knee and rested until she recovered
her senses and could see clearly. The
great strength In the performance of
M'lle Spelterni is the peculiarly graceful
and artistic manner iu which she exe
cute the most dirtlcult teats, and also the
wonderful endurance that enables her to
walk t"i0 feet on a roje, carrying a sixty
pound jKile. Wfj women out of 1,000
could not carry a sixty-pound iole 100
feet while walking on the ground. It is
also so much the more tedious when
walking in baskets, blindfolded, in a sack,
backward, in chains or in any of
her other ways of going. Yesterday
was her last performance iu Niagara, asi
although the business has Improved con
siderably, it does not pay, as over two
thirds of the sptttators remain outside
the inclosures aud evade paying the ad
mission fee of twenty-five cents. If the
has not made any money she has made a
reputation that w ill tollow her all over
Hie world, as siie U certainly the most accompli.-hod
artist that ever crossed the
Niagara KapicL? on a single rojc. Her
iriends are haying a gold medal made in
Buffalo, w hich will be presented to her as
a souvenier of the FalU and a rememb
rance ot the diflicult task she accomplish
ed during her stay. Thr medal will be
the gift of some ot the guests ot the In
ternational Hotel, where M'lle Spelterin'
had her rooms.
