eleven years of peace has taken from the
people, in federal taxes, thirteen times the
whole amount of the legal tender notes,
and squandered lout times this sum in use
less expense, without accumultting any re
serve lor their redemption. We denounce
the tinancial Imbecility and immorality ol
that party which, uuriug eleven years ol
peace, nss maae no auvance to warn re
demption; no preparation for resumption,
but, iusteaii, lias obstructed resumption by
wasting our resource aud exhausting all
our surplus income, ana wuiie annually
professing to Intend a speedy return to
spools payment, has annually enacted fresh
hindrances thereto aa such a hindrance

We demand a judicious system ol pre
paration, by public economies, by official
retrenchment, and by the finances, which
