OL'R TOBACCO MARKET'.
The constant and steady growth of the
Cairo tobacco market la a eource of cratl-
ncation not only to the gentlemen who
have been Instrumental In building; up
the market, but to every buslnps
man and citizen o( the city.
That Cairo Is assuming a lront
rank amonjj the leading tobacco mar
kets of the country is a fact recognized
by dealers everywhere, and It Is now a
common occurance to find nroonsr the
buyers at the sales here represcnta
tlvrB of the lcadinc houses of
the eastern cities and ot Europe,
To substantiate this assertion we may
here state that at a ealo a few days ago
thirty hogsheads were sold to a single
house and shipped direct from Cairo to
Antwerp. One ot the reasons to which
the growth of the Cairo tobacco
market may be attributed is our
unsui passed railroad faculties, nud tbc
consequent low rates of freight to the
East. With the Cairo and Vinccniies and
the Illinois Central railroads, competing
lines, shippers are able to secure low
rates and prompt and speedy delivery ol
tobacco on the eastern makcts. Not only
this, but the Cairo market Is the easiest
of access and the most convenient for the
producers of this section. With her live
railroads and two great rivers
she posseses great advantages
over all competitors, and par
ticularly over Padueah. 1'aducah
with her lack ol shipping facilities cannot
obtain the favorable terms that Cairo
shippers obtain. As lor the matter of
prices the Cairo market compares well
with all other markets in the tobacco
growing regions of the Southwest and
surpasses many ot them. In another
year Cairo will be the tobacco market of
the Southwest.

up tho gloves in Packard's interest, and
with Kellogg, and others of that stripe,
meant to m.ike it as not lor Hayes as-
they possibly could.
It is rumored, also, that during the
