Jonas HAULM'S LICTCSS.—Quite a large sad respectable audience assembled nt tho Congregational church on Monday evening to hear Judge Hamlin's lecture on tho "Ad vantages of a Now Country." Ho spoke eloquently and truthfully of the effects produced by the changed circumstances, the new life, npon men andwomen, making them more self-reliant, more liberal, more practical, more tolerant and less selfish, and infusing into them a more oalwgod sense of their individual responsibility. A few years ago the prairie grata grow ia the streets where oow stand churches and schoolhouaes, built with many sacrifices by the pioneers who prize highly the educa tion of their children and long for the visi ble church. These few yean hare also brought tho railroad, ths telegraph, and the scores of like evidences of resistless en ergy aad enterprise for there is that in ths Western man which will not admit of sluggishness or indifference concerning the mighty means ef advancing civilisation.— Wo have a society refined aad intellectual, sustaining library associations, aad digest ing intelligently and appreciating^ thosurprise works of tbo beet authors. Ths lecturer pictured pleasantly ths memories of ths life in the Eastern homo, with itajnany friends aad holy ties, bat when the new settler thinks of tbo later years, of the privations, toils and victories of his West era life, he feels that the gieater joy lias bore. At 8 o'clock Mies Bisbee appeared on tho platform, and was introduced by Mayor Morrison. Aa she stood before the foot lights, magnifi cent specimen of womanhood, tastefully and neatly attired, aa eloquently speakingface, and grace in every outline of her tall form, an involuntary sensation of applause ran through the audience, many of whom were undoubtedly prejudiced against seeing one of her sex oa the roatrnm. Her appear ance is rather more striking than that of Anna Dickinson. Tho tones of her voice were melodious, albeit a trifle monotonous, for which the small audience and chilly at mosphere of the hell arc probably in groat part to blame. Place Miss Bisbee under favorable circumstances, and we believe ths would not lack lor animation. As a literary production, her lecture will I bear much praise. It was delivered with correct elocution and graceful gesture that gave it a fine effect. Concerning its views wc have not space to speak here at length. It was not particularly of tho •'strong mind ed" east that most evidently expected let apokc of woman aafindingher true sphere sad field wide enough for any human ambition in the sacred home circle. Com ing to tho question of suffrage, she of course insisted on thorightof woman to bo placed on equal terms with man bnt oho did not claim suffrage as a natural right, neither did oho believe it should bo univer sal. She favored making intelligence the basis, bnt came to tbo sensible conclusion, after aU, that woman could exercise much valuable influence and accomplish a great many necessary reforms even without tho ballot, by virtue of tho influence she exerts over man ia all the walks of life. Whoa she demanded equal suffrage for her sex in ths name of justice, shs evidently con sidered it by no means universal panacea. A number of prominent citizens of Min neapolis aad St. Anthony have united inn card testifying to tho excellence of Miss Bisbee's lecture. They toy that it "was intereating, instructive and in every respect moat excellent production. It gave great satisfaction to tho audience, aad at the close the expression was general that it must bo repeated. Very few lectures given in the place have boea to enthusiastically received or given such universal satisfac tion." To this arc signed ths names of Mayor Morrison of Minneapolis, .Mayor Merrimaaof St. Anthony, BOY.
