The camp of the nineteenth regiment at this village has been chris tened by Col. Gilbert "Camp Wilcox," in honor f Gen. Wilcox, of Detroit. We understand that the regiment is to be mustered in to-morrow, Fridav, when we presume the arms and clothing will be distributed. Promotion. In the 6th Regiment of Infantry, the resignation of Col. Curtenius, has been filled by the appointment by Got. Blair, of Lieut. Col. Clark, as Colonel ; Maj. Bacon, Lieut. Colonel, and Capt. Charles E. Clarke, of this village, as Major. Their commissions have probably reached them before now. Putting Order No. 3 is Practice. On Wednesday night of fast week. Col. Gilbert caught two prostitutes from Kalamazoo, who were here under the protection of a fellow named Shear, prowling about the camp. Be at once ordered them placed in the Guard House during the night. The next morning they were taken out, and, with their champion, placed in a wagon and drummed out of town. This is the best spplication of order No. 3 that we have yet heard of, and Col. Gilbert is entitled to the thanks of this entire community for his prompt discharge of it. f3f The recent destructive battles will call upon the people of the country for s large hmount of hospital supplies much larger wc ap prehend tl .n are immediately available in the storehouses. This should at once stimulate our Soldier's Aid Societies to increased activity all over the country. This State will again need to look after our brare soldiers. It would seem that t least sex. and perhaps seven, of our infantry regiments, and one cavalry, have borne part in the recent engagements. It is far better to antici pate the wants that may arise thsn to wsit until the demand for them becomes actual, sod the wounded be compelled to wsit snd suffer while they ate beiug supplied. Michigan Statr Agricultural Bocibtt. We hate received from the Secretary of the State Agricultural Society a Premium List and Rules snd Regulations of the 14th Annuel Fair of the Michigan State Agricultural Society, to be held at Detroit, September 23d. 24th, 25th. and 26th. By it we perceive that ample arrange ments have been made for one of the best Fairs aver held in the State. The agricultural, mechani cal and manufacturing interests of the State should not suffer fdr want of interest during the war. Those having the State Fair in charge1 should foster these interests, and everything shows that they have so det rmined to do. Labor saving machinery will be mdre id deniarid for the year to come than ever before. The Executive Committee hope to call out a show in this department ex celling anything ever before exhibited. We hope that all sections of the State will be wall represen ted. Ustos School. The fall term of the Dowagiac Graded School commences on Mon day next. The school ia atill to be under the ch arge of J. A. Banfield, as principal, assisted by an able corps of teachers in the various departments. The fact that Mr. Banfield is about starting upon his second year, in this school, is evidence that he understands hii business, snd hss given very general satisfaction. Our school is now in a high State of popularity and prosperity, snd superior Inducements are offered to scholars from abroad. We hope to See a large attendance during the coming year. Algebra and Geometry, History snd Philosophy, French and Latlrij will be taught as heretofore, and the requisite facilities' will be given to all who wish to pursue these studies, as well ss the English Studies commonly taught in schools. New Elevators. In addition in the present extensive facilities in Chicago for re ceiving grin. we learn that two first-class Eleva tors are being built on the South Branch by two of our leading warehouse firms, to be completed in S few months, and to be furnished throughout with the most spproved machinery, including twenty-three of Fairbanks' 500 bushel Hopper Scales, which is a sufficient guaranty that correct weights will be given. Besides these, the Messrs. tjrbaak bare set in this city ip a little more thn s yaar, about seventy 500 bushel Hopper Scales and a dozen or so smaller ones, making over a hundred in all. So perfect is the machinery, that each scale may be loaded and unloaded in ten or twelve minutes, which gives some idea of the enormous amount qf grain which may be weighed upon thep, in a tingle day. Let the Farmers of the Northwest raise their immense crops of grain, ana he railroads and canal transports it to Chicago; thsre is no doubt bat our means for re- ceiv.ng. storing and shipping it will kaep paoa with the desaapd Chicago Evening Jeumai. The World's Horsb Fair. The Michigan Central Railroad, in order to accommo date persons wishing to sttend the World's Horse Fail , bow being held in Chicago, have placed the fare at sixty per cent of the usual rate. To en title a person to this reduction, however, tickets must be purchased on the first two days of each week of the fair. They will be good to return at any time daring the fair, and on Sunday, the 14th iut., provided they are endorsed or stamped by the Secretsry of the Fair. Uesperate Fight Bear Richmond, Ky. There is no doubt that the great lever in the ex tension of a business, in these go-ahead times, is advertising; but the' immense popularity of that celebrated remedy for Dyspepsia. Liver Complaint, Nervous Debility, Ac, HooflanS German Bitter, is not so much owing to the fact that it has been extensively advertised, ss it is to the great merit df the article. A worthless medicine may, through publicity, acquire a Short-lived notoriety, but it requires the basis Of true merit, in order to sustain itself for any considerable length of time. HooflatuT Ger man Bitter has been known to the American public for more than ten years; each day adding some new proof of its virtues and great curative propertiea. One Vol. Utno. Price $1,00. NO recent Magazine paper has excited more general interest than the urticle in the August Atlantic, on "The New Gymnastics." The present work is a complete exposition of the system of which that article gave a synopsis. The author of this work has been for many years engaged in teaching Gymnastics. The book des cribes and illustrates his New System or Physical Training. This system has had the practical test of long and varied use. It comprises exercises with Dcaa Bells, Rises, Wakos, Clubs, etc.. all of which are made perfectly clear by full explana tions, while many are illustrated by pictorial representations of the position of the body re quired to perform them. Tan Di mb Bell Instbi'ctob, connected with this work, is of the highest interest and importance. It ia designed for home use. and gives a great variety of Dumb Bell Exercises, together with a carefully selected progressive series for every day practice. The I'akctmnastikon is a very simple, useful, and cheap piece of gymnastic apparatus, upon which all gymnastic exerciaes maybe performed, and which can be introduced, at small cost, into any private house. It is fully described and illus trated in this volume. The New Gymnastics" should be read in everv family in the laud where exercise is valued as a means of heal'h. Ladies, especially, will find in it a great variety of East, Simple, and Inviq o a ting Exercises, all of which msy be practised in their own homes. fy For sale by all booksellers, or sent potpaid to auy address, on receipt of On t Dollab, by the publishers, TICK NOR A FIELDS, 135 Washington Street, Boston.
