Several Decatur people were in Paw Paw, Monday, attending tho trial of Mielko vs. Trowbridge. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Seymour of Law rence were guests of relatives and friends in town last week. Mrs. Dan Carney, Jr., and daughters Donna and lrruaor Coloma were guests of Decatur relatives over Sunday. About seventy of Mrs. John McAdams' friends met at her homo in East De catur last Wednesday evening. A very pleasant evening was spent. Mrs. McAdams will soon movo to Decatur. Chris. Haefner will leave next Mon day for a visit to his native country. lie will go direct to Paris to visit tho ex position and then by way of Strasburg to Stuttgart, thecapitolof Wurtemburg, Germany. Mrs. Mary Lytic and Mrs. Amanda Maxam of Lawton called on Porter friends recently. Mrs. John Cornish is very ill. Her mother, Mrs. Forbes of Kalamazoo, is with her at present. Miss Alice Kay made a short visit home last week to help her brother Vernon celebrate his birthday, he having attain ed his majority. His brothers and sis ters presented him a fine gold watch. Porter has lost two more old residents, Spencer Beach and Geo. Rediker. Mr. Beach was over 80 years old and leaves a largo family of children, grand and great-grand children. Mr. Itediker was an old soldier aud leaves a wife and several children. Otto Korb, Grand Chancellor of K. John Abrams, Sr., died at the homo cf his son John, Tuesday, April 17. The funeral was held at Wildey school house iL Thursday, lie v. Mrs. Barton officiating. The lot around tho water tower and engine building has been nicely graded. Albert Fitch has bought a house down by tho railroad and will make a home of it. G. W. Merriman is setting out 1,000 peach trees on the Kemp farm north of town. D. B. Moore is very ill with erysipelas, and there is not much hope of his re covery. Charles Leach, Hiram Smith and Claude Myers have new wheels this spring. Dr. 11. n. Lawrence has sold his place in the east part of tho village to a party from Chicago. Daniel Graft and family have moved into the Mrs. Whitney house in the north part of the village. L. P. Walker returned from St Louis, Mo., last Friday. Ho had been there to attend the hoopmakers' convention. T. J. Johns tells us that he has about 150,000 feet of logs on the river north of Paw Paw, which he will convert into lumber as soon as ho can get a mill set up. Dan Sammons, our veteran auctioneer, has built a house on wheels, 8x10, which he will stock up with goods and sell around the country, staying a day or two in a place. Huldah Edmonds, aged 10, daughter of Almond Edmonds, died at the home of A. B. Dean, after a short illness. Her funeral was held at the M. E. church, Tuesday at -J::J0. James Mcintosh, who has worked for his brother here in the blacksmith shop for the last seven years, has quit and will go into business for himself as soon us he can iind a location that suits him. A man from South Bend by the name of Goodyear has rented the Ilassett ho tel and will take posession this week. He will paper and paint and refurnish it in good style to run a first class hotel. Mrs. John Hubbard was married April Jth to Mr. Craft of Grass Lake. Soon after her marriage she was taken sick with rheumatism, which became worse day by day and finally went to her heart, and site died Fridav at o o'clock. Her funeral was held Sunday at 2 o'clock at the Congregational church, of which she was a member. Mrs. Hubbard has lived here in the village for over thirty y ears itrd was respected by all who knew her. She was an earnest worker in the church and had held the ollice of trustee for a number of years. Sho leaves a husband and one sister, Mrs. Freeman Stowe, and a large circle of friends to mourn her death, and we extend our heartfelt sym pathy to them all. I.lrtttawan.
