Universitt of Nashville. The Medi cal Department of this old and popular in stitution will open its Fall session on the first Monday in November. Seo advertise ment. Undertaking. It will be seen from the card of Sam. Mitchell & Co., that they are now prepared to wait on Funerals with a splendid hearse and metahc cases. They are also prepared to do any and all kinds of carpenter and joiner's work needed. They are clever boy6, and we solicit patronage for them. ' Reid, Cuaduourn & Co. We notice that this firm has displayed great sagacity in the selection of a clerk, in the person of our friend Enock (Dock) Hancock, who is now canvassing the county in the interest of his employers. They will make many addi tions to their list of patrons and friends in this county by the selection of a clerk so worthy and so well qualified. We invito attention to their advertisement. Soldiers' Relief Association. We learn from the Vice President of the Aaso ciation in this county that a handsome con tribution of 150 has been received from the Brick Church neighborhood raised and forwarded by Mis. Gordon, in response to a circular address from Mrs. Spofford. We hope other portions of the county will respond as liberally. There is a spark of philanthropy yet remaining in old Giles, and we are gratified to s:e it beginning to burn. We hope to see it spread rapidly. Geat Sale of Real Estate. Two 6tore houses, five vacant storehouse lots, four office lots, and a magnificent residence, all situated in Pulaski, and fwelva or thirteen hundred acres of land adjoining, town, all belonging to tho estate of the lste A. M. Ballentine, are advertised to be sold in tbia paper. Here is certainly a rare op portunity for capitalists and for business men generally to invest money profitably. For .U. information refer to tho advertise ment. Chancert Court Hon. David Camp bell, presiding is now in session. Maj. Koau has not made his appearance to claim the seat; but on the other hand, has seen prepcr,to vjolato his obligation as a judicial officer, by leaving tfie State just ft the time one of his courts is in session, to attend a negro-radical convention to concoct villainy, plot treason, and devise schemes to humili ate oppress and degrade Southern people. We hope Fred Douglass and the other ne gro delegate, to this radical oenvention, may take such a i.ling to the little Jew-el that he may be induce! to fUv, with thetn. Horse Rack3. The corporate authori ties, with commendable forethought, have caused to be err?cted on the eortmon, near the bank of Pleasant Run, eijht 1 iro Irorsa racks for the accommodation of country people. They design to make additional improvements this fall by sui rounding the racks with shaJa trees. Thus it will be seen that our authorities are disposed to favor our country friends in this respect, as much as they fsvur the town peopla in an ordnance passed recently and published in ibid paper, concerning the hituiiiu of horees to private promises. ; Military Arrests. We Lave been silly enough to believe that the days of military arrests and mili tary dominations were past in Una country, but' 'it-seems-we have been laboring under a great delusion. Four citizens -of this county, named, Geo."WeiIs, James Russell, Geo. Keef and John Sullivan were arrested by a squad of U. S. cavalry on Saturday and Sunday last, and are now in the peni tentiary at Nashville, charged with having murdered a negro about the 1st of July last. It is claimed that the arrest was made under Gen. Grant's recent order, when, in fact, people in this benighted region have been indulging the belief that the Presi dent's recent proclamation abrogated that order. A writ of habeas corpus will test the matter we suppose, which, we hope, will be applied for immediately. Mickle, Mason & Uaclasd We invite attention to the card of this house in to day's paper. It will be' seen that Will Hodge is now connected with this firm, of whom the Memphis Lulhtln truthfully says: "W. W. Hodge, of the house of Mickle, Mason it Ragland, wholesale boot and shoe dealers, is on a tour through the Gulf States. He was one of the "Press gang" of this city, a.id is entitled to all kindness ot the hands of the fraternity. Tradespeo j le will find him eminently trustworthy, and may rest assured that the house he represents has a fit agent in this excellent gentleman. We have known Mr. Hodge these sixteen years past, were once of the same newspaper establishment, and there fore speak what we do know of him. To Carpenters. A good carpenter can get employment by making application to Sam. C. Mitchell fc Co., of this place. It. HYMENIAL HEliORT. Here love his g.ddcn shaft employs, hcielizhts His constant lamp and waves his purple wings Keigns here and revels. - Married On the 30th ult., at the resi dence of James Strong, Esq., by Rev J. M. Gallaway, Mr W. G. Ikman to Miss Sallie, daughter of T. S. Fogg, Esq., all of this county. This was a foggy affair i. e.', clandestine. On the. 4th inst , at thr residence of the bride's father, by Rev. Wellborn Mooney, Mr. James II. Ballentine. of Puhski, to Miss Mart E., daughter of Rev. Edgar M. Swoope, of tlje vicinity of Courlland, Ala. The treasuresof the world are not half so precious as are the concealed comforts of a man locked up in woman's love.
