For Docombor.
Godoy's Lady's Book comos to us
for Docembcr. It is, i ppsiblo, m?ro
richly embellished than evor. Its faol
ion editor deserves much praise for the
choice selections czhibitcd. AH wish
ing a good magazino should subscribe
for Godoy. Wo know it to bo worth its
prico to any housekeeper for tho many
valuablo receipts it contains. Wo can
furnish Godey, together with tho Holt
County Sentinel, for four dollars and
fifty cents.
Drunk.
Wo aro credibly informed that a' man,
in town last week, was drunk. It may
bo true we do not like to doubt our in
formant's word. But it seems so singu
lar that if a man in walking' along tho
street happens to step a little uncertain,
or wabble it is to bo supposed at onuu
that he is drunk. Has not every muli
a right to occupy as much of tho great
thdrouiihfare as ho chooses ? It's a
pity he. can not do so without bchig
called drunk. It is so. Tliero arc
other good roasops for these variations
For instance, a man's boots may hurt
his feet, or ho may bo afflicted with the
Noucraleia. You ask one of these
same unfortunato mortals who tuny hap
pen to pcrambulato our streets as des
cribed. He'll be surprisod : "Drunk!
Mo drunk ? W'y, zir, you must bo
mistaken! W'y, w'y, h-I 'aven't tascnl
a d-drop for a month !" It is not fair
to supposo that such a man is drunk,
when ho is looking sober with all
his might. Ho mounts his horse
to lcavo town, and if ho docs not sit
erect as an Indian, do not Bupposo that
it is becauso ho is unablo to do so
that ho is drunk.' Ho is simply
exercising certain prerogatives, which
appertain lo Amorican citizens, especi
ally designed for county court and elec
tion days not drunk.
