Labor Reform Meeting. Allj'tbo labor reformers of "Oregon and vicinity are roquestcd to meet in the city of Oregon, Saturday, April 5th, for the purpose of completing the Greenback club of Oregon, and tran sact some other important business. Meeting will be called at 2 o'clock m. A general invitation extended. By Order of Committoo. Woman Suffrage. Editor Sentinel. The question ' woman suffrage, having been brought prominently before the peo ple of Holt county, by the orgrniza- tion of a Woman's Suffrage Associa tion at Oregon, it becomes the duty of intelligent men and women to give tho subject their careful considera tion. The question is ono of the live issues of tbe hour and cannot bo ig- red. Liko Banquo's ghost it will ot down. Jt Is evident to tho most uporficial observer that the demand for, politIcal recognition on the part of Woman citizens is LcOPmipg morn mperatlve every day. One bj 0BC woman has, by her own persistent efforts, broken tho fetters that have bound ber to tho barbarisms of tho past. Step by step, she has advanc ed from the slavery and degradation of dark ages to the enlightoned civil ization of tiie presont, and she has never receded from a vantage ground nee obtained. She haa firmly, no bly and honorably held evory inch of ground she has- gaitied, and sho hns ennobled every position to which she has fought her way. And now when woman demands tho privllego of tho ballot box on an equality with man, is the duty of thinking, patriotic men to give ber a fair hearing. My own opinion is, that tho l4th amend ment to the Conititution confers pon woman, tho samo political ights and privileges that it confers pon man. It makes women, citizens, and if citizens, then voters according the enmmou acceptation and mean- ng of the term. But whether or no we cannot escape the inevitable, for woman suffrage is suro to succeed. The night is far spent, the day is at hnnd. The same forco which has emancipated tho negro slave, which has placed the ballot iu his hand; that force which has ever moved lit the direction of Woman's Rights and niversal freedom that same power ill enfranchise woman. Editor Sentinel: I have not seen anything from this part of Kan sas, so I thongbt I would write a few lines to your excellent paper. This part of Kansas Is fast fettling np and still tbey come; there is still room, for Uncle Sam is giving them all a farm. Thoso having no homes would do well to come here, for if they keep coming In as tXoy have for the past year all the good land in Kansas will be taken. There are thousands of acres of as nice land horo as tho sun ever shined upon. The weather hero is warm and dry. The winter wheat looks well bore this spring and we ore looking for ward to a big harvest. Planting po tatoes and making garden is ths or. der of tho day. Breaking teams can bo seen In every direction you may look. For the benefit of the readers of the Sentinel that may como west, I would say to them not to buy break ing plows there for they can be pur chased here for sixteen dollars new. Health has bcon excellent during tho winter and spring in order to get up a funeral some body has te be killed. Tho severo winter hero has been hard on cattle, henco they look badly. In this portion of Kansas the land is level, abundance of water aud excellent rock. Milch cows aro worth $25 to $35; Ihrco year old stccis are worth $15 to $20. The Sentinel Is a welcome visitor, and beats all your JeltcT. A. J. Bnow.s. Lhi Stock. Cattle. Several weeks ago we expressed the opinion that matured cattle were good property to have. At that time there wero sundry cir cumstances that seemingly made nnr rudictieiis baseless. Tbe "scare1 regarding exporting vras then fully at work, exciting fears that the Eng lish Government would prevent the reception of American cattle alive In to its ports. For a time the trade was lessened in its prosportions, and prices drooped in consequence. Al that time, however, It was perfectly reasonable to snjipose that thronzh Investigations by Government officials would furnish publicly the informs tion that was already widely diffused in cattle-raising sections of tbe West proving that there was and is no dis- oase. It was only a question of time as to the revival of the export trade in cattlo. Apparently, that period has arrived. Lately exporting of live cattle has begun to show increased voluml and tho. market bas received "aw life and strength. The advauce since last Tuesday bas amouutcd to 3050c lb 100 lb on all good native steers, and values many not be main tained on heavy receipts, yet it is pre sumable that quotatious for shipping cattlo will not run down to the point- from which they started, certainly not within a mouth's time, if they should do so even then. The export ing demand will probably be too lib eral to permit It, even if receipts should increase largely. A greater supply of butcher grades would no doubt cause declines. Yet even these may not be severe, for the demand, both on local and shipping account, will be kept np until the last week in Lent, aud aflor that it will Increase again. Feeding steers and Blockers of all descriptions have shown per sonal and order demand largely In ex cess ot receipts, the latter going at strong prices. Feeding steers rnled steady al protty even prices. Mr Juo Price of New Point sold 18 head good fat steers at $4.50 the best sale made that wc bave heard of. Hoc. The liberal falling off In re ceipts is now beginning to ;effcct the market. This wek tbe supply of hogs was but little The bulk in quali ty was as poor as ever, and hence buyers who wanted good hogs of light or heavy shipping and butcher grades had to go utnupplied. Present prospects are that for some weeks to come there will be no over supply of hogs of good quality, the only kind that now ahiw a real demand. The great complaint the past week has been that hogs were poor. In fact, but very few passably good qualities have been seen. Buyers thorofore had lo got along as well as they could. Al though tho supplyjwas scanty the f hp pers wero not vory actlvo iu their de mmds. Baltmore orders wero very limited, and a good share of the light hogs went lo ITork buyers nnd to city packers. Tho Yorker Inquiry was fair, but tlto shippers wero disposed to purchase at easy prices. The butch ers have been obliged to -tako Malt more grades of hogs in -the ahsonce o"f other kinds.
