PASSENGER RATES
In Kentucky To Be Reduced To 2's
Cents Per Mile By Four Other
Roads Besides tho L. & N.
In order to compete with the Louis
ville nnd Xnshvillo Rnilroad Coinpanv
for passenger Jiusiucss ' m Kentucky,
four other roads, tlio (southern Railway,
Chesapeake and Ohio, Illinois Central
and the Louisville, Henderson and St.
Louis Road, will follow tho lead taken
by tho Louisville and Nashville, and
reduce their rates to 2Va cents per mile
between now nnd April I.
The .reductions of the othei loads will
apply, as in tho case of the L. & X., to
local or State business and, according
to calculations made yesterday on the
total mileage of the various lines, will
mean n saving of at least .f 800,000 a yea
to the traveling public.
Tim Chesapeake and Ohio mileage in
cludes Louisville to Cntlettburg, 211
miles; Catlettsburg to Elkhorn vity, 12
miles; Ashland to Cincinnati, HI miles,
and branches Mt. Sterling to Itothwoll,
twenty miles; Garrison to outer Coun
ty, twenty miles, or a total of 520 miles.
Passenger rates of tho C, & O. fiom
Louisville to 'Lexington, Lexington to
Mt. Sterling, Lexington to Winchester,
nro now quoted on a basis of 3 cents a
mile. To all these points the into win
bo reduced to 2, cents a n.ilc, inasmuch
as that company uses tho tracks of tho
L. & N.o these points nnd the L. & V.
reduction is effective in bis torritory.

Harrison County Man Is Convicted On
Charge of Detaining Woman.
Cwithiann. John Boots Slade in the
Hairison Circuit Court was sentenced to
the penitentiary on an indeterminate
sentence of from two to seven years on
the diargo'of detaining a woman. It
was alleged that Slade and the young
num. in were out driving when he at
tempted to attack her. The incident
ooeuueil last summer.
