Before the next number is issued the edi tor will' he 'at Columbus. : Our renders mtst exercise some indulgence during; his ..L't.U L-t nuMislinr will do the best he can to make the Telegraph a readable and interesting sheet, and the editor will furnish letters daily, giving a distinct his toiy of the doings of the Legislature and such other matter as his other duties will permit. This, we hope, will be a reason able substitute for his ordinary labors, and on his return, he expects to devote more tima rwl aitcntinn in tVm mlitm-inl denart- IllUlj IIU Win - f mept than heretofore. . The year, just opening will be one of unusual interest in the political belli, A Presidential campaign, which promises to be one of the most exciting through which we have past, is about to commence. It is the duty of the citizens to investigate the principles of .the parties and the qual ifications of-candidates s well. And It 'is especially the duty .of the press to dis cuss those matters truthfully, impartially and in the spirit of ai did investigation. This 6lull be our honest purpose. We are not so wedded to any party as to wish its success, "only so far as ft represents the prineipies we cherish. So far, and no far ther, we owe allegiance to the Republican prty; and while it continues to be the representative of those principles we shall give irwhatever support is in our power. The Telegraph will, therefore, support the Republican party and Republican candi date, Provided, dough fa ceism does , not find its way into the platform, or Oil fogyism on its ticket. But the Telegraph will not be wholly occupied with polities. It will be made, eo far bs we are capable, a welcome visitor to every home circle in the Co'.inty. And with the voluntary aid of our fiiends, we hope to see it placed in every rending fan.-, ily in the County. Send in subscriptions. The Millennium Approaching. The last Portsmouth Tribune" says that durina the last week there were re ceived by Canal, at the Sciolo Distillery', f'trtu-tm thiusnnd, seven hundred and tieeity -seven bushels corn. Only think of the progress, in civilization, virtue and religion, which will be affected by the in-iiu.eni-e.cf the "spiiit," when this corn is !l i.re(l into blessed Whisky. When will Uin people of Meigs County j'lin their forces to, those, of Scioto in spir itualizing the benighted regions .of the earth? There is not,- we believe, a single distillery in the County, and the conse quences are, that the corn raised by our firmers is wasted in making bread, or feeding dumb brutes! To see the quanti ties of good corn thus,, virtually thrown away, when'it might have been converted into whisky and sold for five cents a drunk, is enough to stir the righteous ouls.of . The Abollt ionlst oral udlson Count-, Ky., to he Removed. Madison county haft long been rurse'd with a number of Aboli'ionists, which her citizens have determined to remove. A commillee to whom this was referred made 'this report on Wednesday: Resolved, That, in the opinion of this meeting, the association of J. G. Fee and others is a combination of an incendiary character, and not only at war with the best interests of this community, but de structive of all organized society; and this fommiltee recommend to the meeting to assemble on the 17 inst., the appointment of to remove the said Fee and Rog ers, and so many of their associates as the peace and Sf.fety of society ehall require Anothet meeting is called lor the 17lh to take-final action. Louisville Courier. Madison is the county in which Cas sius M. Clay resides. The movement is evidently agauist him, although Rev. J. ft. Fee, named. They have tried that game before but failed. Cassius lias told them distinctly, that the first step in their progress in .that county must be consecra ted by murder! Chrlatmas Tree and Supper. We have hardly time to notice the happy event alluded to in the above caption which proved to be one of much pleasure to the company assembled, and, we hope, of much profit to the energetic ladies w ho got it up. The Academy Build'tng was literally jammed, from top to bottom, with guests. The "Tree" was neatly drfcsed and trimmed, and abounded with- innu merable specimens of handiwork and tovs. As to the supper, words cannot doit just ice; we will simply say it was.supeib, and refer our-renders to the guests for a report. ihe Musical Entertainment of Prof. Munson's class, on last Thursday "n.ng, reflects great credit upon tee Professor bi a tencher, and upon the pu pils as very apt scholars. JCSTlie chivalry have just discovered a difficulty in the way of carrying out their present programme.'. The Govern ors of several States have earnestly recom mended the Legislature to put the militia on a magnificent war footingreiidy tocrush out the pestilent free States.'' Resolves have been passed with great enthusiasm, pledging- complete non-intercourse with the North, and binding themselves with the powerful cords of their honor, thnt they will not buy, or permit, to come into their States, anything manufactured in the North. This looked rather bad. But the Raleigh (N. C.) -Register" has brought them to a dead halt by the discovery and startling announcement that "there is not a single powder mill in the Union south of Delaware; nor.is there a manufactory of arms, or a foundry for cannon south of Harper's Ferry." . Well, which will you do, gentlemen? Gjve up the fight, or buy the- powder, and arms of the Yankees? Take your time to consider, gentlemen! We would not, by any means, influence your choice in a mat ter that so vitally interests you. But we would like to know what you are going to do about it. BOOK KOTICES. The "Post" is considered by many the best, as it is the oldest, of ihe weekly papers. For 1860, we perceive, it ofiers a large and beautiful steel engraving called "Tub Speaking Likeness," as a premium, to every subscriber. It offers also two other large fleet engravings of "TnE Falls of Niagara," as a premium to the getters up of Clubs. ' Thi contributors to the "Post" are not excelled by those of any other pa per. See Prospevius. 1 43T"Godey'8 Lady's iJook," edited by Sarah J. Hale and L. A. Godey, and pub lished by Louis A. Godey, Philadelphia, is also received. This is, we believe, the oldest Magazine in the country, the Janu ary number being the commencement of the Sixtieth volume of the work. The act that a literary work should live and flourish for thirty years under the man agement of the same publishers, is, of itself, a sufficient proof of the estimate in which it is held by the public.
