entered tho little fellow's trea-f. pas-ins
neiir the region nf the heirt. Tiiis sa I n(
fair ought t' b3 a warning to parents in re
gard to the concealment of loaded weapons
about a house where childcn are. There is
entirely loo much carelessness exhibited in
this respect, and scsreely u day pus-cs but
wo hear of some fatul accident re.-u!lii:rr
from tha careless handling cf f.re nuns. In
this instance, we sinrcrely synipathize with
the bereaved parents in t'hdir terrible af
fliction. Oleaginous. Wo published, in
our last weok's issu, nn orticlc on'tbe Oil
prospects of this region signed " 0!scr
erver," to which we failed to call the at
tention of our reader?. We now supply
the omission and call attention to tho arti
cle. We are well satisfied that, if the pro
per energy i3 exhibited, and a sufficient
amount ol capital invested, to develop the
hidden wealth cf our Oh ginous deposits,
we wiil yet reap a rich harvest from this
recently discovered source of public and
private wtalth. The wells mentioned by
" Observer" are, we understand, oivin-r
fair promise of a good vicld, and wiil
doubtless richly repay those engird jn
boring. There is, without aoubt, large
Oil basin underlying a portion of this coun
ty, with a probable dip corresponding in a
certain ratio with tfrat of our coal veins
and stlicioiis strata of rock. Tnis basin
can-be reached hy boring deep enough, and
we are satisfied its lich deposits will ret
be 1 brpht to light. U remains to he seen
whether our own citizens vill take hold of
this matter, or whether they will wait un
. til the enterprise of foreign capitalifis siezes
the rich prize and bears it beyond their
grasp. Let them look to it. .
' We shall endeavor to keep our readers
well posted on this important subject in
future, and invite-communications relatina
