Little Crow first attacked him for the murder of his father and a band of Indians in Min nesota, by a parly of whites eleven years since, mistaking Lurge for one of the number. After laying on the field four days he was found by soldiers from Fort Dodge, who had not ed his absence and, and were in search of him. The affair oc curred last October. It was four months before the wound where his scalp was removed began to heal, and even at this late day it is still sore, and much inflamed, and about the ugliest looking wound we ever saw. Wk neglected last week to noie the accident which result ed in the dnath of Mrs. Thom as Brewer, on Monday ol last week. She had started from Z tleski on the railroad track to walk home, about two miles from thai place. She stepped off of the track to let a train pass by her, but was drawn in towards the train by the cur rent of air, slipped, or became dizzy, and fell against the rear car, Iracluring her skull near the temple, i eeull ing in her death in about an hour after the accident. Ihk Concert given last Thursday evening for the ben. efitof theM E Church, by Mrs W. V. Lawrence, Misses Una and Ida Row, Dr. J. L. Dunlap and daughter, and Herbert Holland, was well attended, and the audience highly de lighted with the music of the perlormerj. Mrs. Lawrence's lull rich soprano voice led the club, Miss Ida Row sustaining the contrrho, Mr. Holland the tenor, Dr. Dunlap the bags, wiib Miss Llna Row presiding at the piano. The music furnished by the club, and solos and duetts by the members were faultless, and Mios Row's performance on the piano exhibited that rare skill, ease and delicacy ol execution for which she is no led. Altogether it was the greatest musical concert we have listened to in McArthur, and far ahead of the profession al combinations which have visited us. The audience was highly pleased, and in their behalt and of those having the concert in charge, we are re quested to thank the club lor their kindness iti volunteering their services. From Allensville. ALLENSVILLE, O. Aug. 26,1873. Our village this morning was the scene of considerable ex citement occasioned by a pair of horses attached to a two horse carriage entering tovvn from toward McArthur at full speed. It was immediate ly seen that there was no driv er and the cainage and horses literally covered with mud Our citizens ut once used their best efforts to impede the prog ress of the frightened horses and before they reached the western boundary of town they were compelled to halt, when some ol our citizens at once recogn zed the rig as belong ing to Mr. Fox, of llamden. At once two of our citizens leaped, into tiie carriage mak ing the runaway team cover their tracks made in their flight. When . a .hall mile eas(, ol town they found something in the shape of a man lying in the road in a beastly state of intoxication, with his broad cloth all saturated in mud and filthy water. When the un.'or tunate creature was taken into the carriage Irom which he had fallen, ami brought to the Farm ers Hotel where the frightened team and the inebriated, un fortunate creature was fitly cared lor, by the landlord pro fusely administering the vir tue ol Divines linament, and after the latter had lain in this state for eight hours, and na ture had gained its supremacy it was ascertained llti.t our ua tortunate guest was a represen tative of the house of Ander O. The Galveston News speaks enthusiastically of the profits nt agriculture in Western Tex as, and says : Every year's additional ex perience confirms us in the opinion that the droughts for merly so much complained of in Western Texas are becoming less and less frequent as the country is settled up, and as the prairies are becoming ttore and more timbered or covered with a rapid growth of mesquit or chapparal. In fact, we be lieve Western Texas that is, the country between Colorado and San Antonio has suffered as little from droughts during the past ten years as any State in the South. The crops hare generally been good, and the labor of the Western farmer has been remunerated with good crops. Indeed, we believe farming has been subject to more drawbacks in the North J l-a. I"! . a '"(. a em auu western states irvan in Texas from droughts, excessive rains, late spring and early fall frost, storms, iunundations, and other casualties. Taking into consideration the great length of the farming season in Texas extending almost through the the whole year, a? compared through the very short season at the North, there is not a doubt but that it will be eu tirely within the bounds of truth to say that the same la bor here is rewarded with more than twofold the remuneration it receives at the JSorth.
