A Pretended Messiah.
The New Free Press'of Vi
enna ha9 just published from
the pen of Ihe English travel
er, Baron deMaltazan, an ac
count of a pretended Messinh
who has appeared in Arabia:
He is a Jew, of Sana, in Ye
men, with a facinatinp: exteri
or, remarkable brilliant eve.,
and a melodious voice. After
etuddyins the mysteries of the
great cabalistical work, the
Zoha, he withdrew from inter
course with his fellow men.
and Jevtnfually retired inio a
desert, where he submitted to
bodily mortifications and self
denial. He soon became dis
tinguished as a worker of mir
acles, and, as such, attracted
the attention or the supersti
tions Bedouins. Those seckinj;
to obtain his good graces,
brought various descriptions of
food and were pleased that he
condescended to accept their
offerings. The increase of their
flocks and of their households,
and even their success in the
attack upon hostile troop?,
were attributed to the power
peculiar to this worker of mar
velous doings. Ilis reputation
has spread far and wide among
the Arabian population, and
many incredible 6tories are
circulated about him."

The week's production is worth
about $48,000, or at the rate ol
$2496,000 per annum. The
company paid out $10,000 to
to hands Saturday. The bulk
of this money comes to this
city from abroad as the pro

and is so much direct increase
of the wealth of community
by absolute creation. Therein
it differs lrom wealth realized
from mere speculation in val

other sources of wealth, except
of the samo class. That which
bears the neaiest analogy out
of the same class is the value

same class substantially with
It results therefore that Col
umbus is richer, in the aggre
gate wealth of community, by
certain proportion of this
amount, each week. The ten
thousand paid out to hands Sal-
unlay night goes into the ex
changes of the community,
most of it immediately. It
goes to "Ihe butcher, the baker,
the candlestick maker" nnd all
the rest. Some ol it goes for
real estate, on which to build
homes lor the families of these
men. Some goes for lumlxr
hardware, and -what not for the
building. Here again we come
to still another rtfl x benefit
the workmen who labor on

share of the wages Jor the
purchase of all the like neces

ers lrom the butcher, the ba

ker. They also go on the mar
ket for real estate, for their
homes. They help pay taxes,
support schools and churches,
read newspapers, and do all
those things which add to
the wealth, intelligence and
culture of the community
