n ? I J?ttho J?cactemy* ???MM?? "The Smart Set" appears at th? Academy to-night. This is the largest colored theatrical organisation in pe ?world, Gertrude Cog?an. What Is promised to bo one of the most attractive offerings of the present theatrical season is the announcement of the forthcoming appearance at the Academy on Friday and Saturday, with Saturday matinee, of the favorite and ?beautiful young emotional actress, Miss Gertrude Coghlan. Irrespective of her vehicle, Miss Cogh lan's art Is so universally conceded to be a high form of stage genius that tho mere announcement of her engagement in always sufficient of Itself to crowd our theatre. When to this certainty the further magnet. "Tho Sword of Justice," the great emotional play, written by her father, the late Charles Coghlan, Is added, it is a reasonable assumption that seats for Miss Coghlan's coming perform? ance will be at a premium. The drama will be elaborately mounted with beauti? ful new scenery and appropriate stage Investiture. Wills a Virginian. Nat M. Wills, who will be seen here Monday night, is a young Virginian, ?whose boyhood and college days were passed In the old F. F. V. The audience at the Bijou Theatre last night showed an Increase over the pre? vious nights, the lower floor being better filled than at any other time. Several new people have been put on since the company came here, and they are fitting in splendidly. There will be a matinee to-day, with the usual night perform? ance. The Night Before Christmas. "The Night Before Christmas," to bo presented at the Bijou Theatre next week, seems to appeal to the cllente-lle of the popular priced houses. The question of law involved, while somewhat Improba? ble, has been pronounced perfectly legal by expert authority. BOY SHOT TO DEATH. Lad With Broken Arm in Hands of Faith Curists. ? tSpeclal to The Tlmes-Dlspatch.) BLUBF1BLD, W. VA., Nov. 4.?A mys? terious shooting occurred here last night, in which a twelve-year-old colored boy, Robert Watson, was instantly killed. The shot was fired by a negro man, Edward Watkins. The boy was in a bed room in tho lodging house of Lee Good wine and the shot was fired through a window. It took effect in the forehead and spat? tered his brains out. ? Tho murderer made his escape. Mr. Pearson being a "Holiness" disciple, and not believing in the eftl cacy of the physicians' art, straightway summoned some of his friends and to? gether they engaged In prayer for the little fellqw's recovery. Some of those assembeld lost faith and dispatched a messenger for a doctor. The doctor re? sponded, but he was not allowed to set the broken bone. Friends of Mr. Pear? son now assert that the little boy Is re? covering and that he has never suffered from the fracture, sleeping as soundly the night after the accident as before.
