MEETING OF INSURANCE MEN Inspection of Fire Risks in City. Knights of Columbus Visit Richmond. Times-Dispatch Bureau, 5 BoUingbrook Street. (Telephone 14S5) Petersburg. \ a>, October 24. The Kev. George C Ztigier, pastor of the Cbrlatian Church mt this city, who went to Washington yesterday to make some Inquiry as to Professor Carlo Mora, late organist of the High Street Methodist Church, whose al? leged mysterious death in a hospital has 'been reported, returned this morn- { ing. He was not able to rind any: trace concerning the reported fatal' accident to Professor Mora, nor was! he able to learn anything of "Dr. j Paula Mora," supposed to be the bro-; tber of the missing man. from whom the telegram announcing his death, was received. Certain facts concern ing Professor Mora, who was held in high esteem as a prominent musician; in Petersburg, were brought to light, which have only served to deepen the mystery. It is now generally believed that Professor Mora still is living. Meetlag of Issswranee Men. The meeting last night in A. P. Mill Camp Hall of the Virginia Fire Protection Association was largely at? tended, not only by Insurance men. but property owners and city officials. About forty representatives from out? side the city of Insurance companies doing business In Petersburg, were in the city during the day and at the meeting at night. The principal speakers were President J. M. Waller and Secretary A. H. Harris, of the association. Mr. Harris spoke of the great losses by fire annually in this country, many of which could have been prevented by proper precautions. He spoke of the movement to con? serve property, and In this line sug? gested as a preventive measure the cleaning out by property owners of waste and rubbish in cellars, attics and alleys, correcting flues and en? forcing building laws. President Waller referred to the fact that 650 places, fire risks In Peters? burg, were inspected yesterday, and he described conditions as they were found. Defects of various sorts had "been discovered, which should be remedied. Captain N. T. Patteson. chairman of the Finance Commute, spoke of the appropriations made by the Council for enlarging the force and increasing the efficiency of the Fire Department, as a means of greater protection to property. In this respect Secretary Harris suggested that it might be well for the city, while providing greater means for fighting fire, to pro? vide also better machinery for pre? venting them. Councilman W. Ii. Mc Kenney. Alderman P. S Pugh, Fire Chief Farley and others also spoke briefly. One of the outcomes of the meeting will be the enactment of a proper building code and the appoint ment of a building Inspector. | Qalet Weddlnga.
