New York. November 21.?There was
a definite improvement in the stock
market to-day and prices rose easily
in all Quarters. The amount of trail
inc. all comparatively small, was the
largest of the week. A long list el
stocks. Including leading railroad and
industrial Issues, established gums pf
X to 3 points.
At the opening quotations were af?
fected by the higher range of Ameri?
cans in London, and small gains here
were general. Announcement of the
engagement of ITOO.uOO gold for im?
portation from London, favorable rail?
road returns for October, optimistic
trad'- reports and the prospects for
conclusion of Um Balkan war seemed
IS traders to Justify a more bullish
position.
Tht market continued to show a
lack of purpose, and diir'.nsr most of
the afternoon session trading was at a
low point at prices slightly below the
hest. In the last hour the heaviest
baytag of tn<* say occurred, and the ;
market closed strong at the hest rig-!
.res of the session Although the drop
in foreign exchange rates, which yes?
terday fell to the lowest point since
131?. had indicated the possibility of
gold Import* to-day's announcement
?ame a* a surprise, since no engage?
ments were looked for before Monday,
when the weekly offerings of south
African ??l-i will be made in I/ondon.
It was reported that negotiations were
under way for further gold engage?
