ATTACK ON ROBIN
III TRIAL Of HYDE
New York, November 2?.?Testimony
that Joseph G. Robin, chief witness
for the State in the trial of former
City Chamberlain Charles H. Hyde, has
been Insane for several years was
given by alienists at Hyde's trial to?

that Hyde obtained a loan of $130,
000 from Robin's Northern bank for
the tottering Carnegie Trust Com?

posits, of which he had control, coun

who testified that Robin was mentally
afflcted at the time of hla alleged ne?
gotiations with Hyde and St-., is in?

The attack on Robin came after the
testimony of number of a prominent
citizens, including lodges, business
j men and bankers, as to the good char
! acter of the accused, Hyde.
Dr. Austin Flint declared that Robin
suffered from "true paranoia"
Delusions, which Dr. Flint declared
Robin had. were that he believed him?
self to be a natural son of the ruling
house of Russia; that he considered
J. P. Morgan an?; August Belmont ene?
mies who were seeking to "kill him."
and that he was so much in fear of
electrocution that he wore rubber
shoes to Insulate hUnselt He also
told of Robin's stories of a mysterious
"voice" which ruled him. and when
this feature was touched upon by an?
other alienist in corroboration of Dr.
Flint the prosecution asked;
"Was. then. Bonaparte Insane?"
The witness, Dr. William Mabon. or
the State Hospital for the Insane, on
Ward's Island, replied: "He was a
paranoiac."
Dr. Mabon saiJ Martin Luther and j
John Wesley also were insane to some
extent, but their form of paranoia ac-'
complisbed some _ood.
