hare been scattered broadcast over the
land. Many inquiries have come in
from cities throutnout the Middle
West, 'oncerning seei 1a1 dates for vis?
iting teams Ruch' unusual interest
has been displaced at this early period,
that the officials of the Toledo Tourna?
ment Company, which is flnan- ing the
big event, and the American Bowling
cngrcsg are confident that the entry
list for the meeting will equal and pos?
sibly exceed thnt of the Chicago tour?
ney in HI?. At the Windv City meet?
ing W.' five-man teams were entered. ?

more than at Detroit. These are some
of the fleures that Toledo will be ex- j
pected to beat, in spite of the fact that
probably one-quarter of the entries
oaaaa from Chicago itself.
With each passing season the game
to tenpins has waxed larger and larger. |
and this fart furnishes the basis for the:
optimism rampant among the heads of
the tournament.
Besides the 4,onn bowlers many spec- j
tators are expected from cities in all I
parts of the country to view the best '
performers in the land on the drives.
The bowlers will have an opportun- 1
ity to roll for solid gold medals in each i
event, while a solid gold, diamond-;
studded medal will be donated the
winner of the all-event contest, the
highest mark for the nine tournament
games.
In former seasons the entry list has
reached as far Hast as Maine, while
teams have come to the tournament
from Victoria. B. C. Fives from To- ;
ronto and Hamilton. Ontario, have
participated in former affairs, as well
as 'I'ibs from Texas and Louisiana
In view of the great passenger traffic I
during the tournament the various !
passenger organizations, including the
Central Passenger. Western Passenger. ,
Eastern Trunk Line and Canadian
Passenger Association have guaranteed
reduced rates to Toledo, which can l?e
se. ured any time after February I. j
This is the Orst time in three rears
that 'he railroads throughout the conn
try have given the bowlers redtned
rates. 1

DOWN THE ALLEYS
BY WHIT WHITMAN.
The local bowlers cun?nue to smash
records as the season grows older. New
sct.-< have been muds the past week in
all three leagues Thursday night, at
the Newport Alleys, the champion
Alco and the Richmond Lunch aggrega?
tions played a double-header The
AI' os. by their heady bowling, captured
five out of the ms games Wednesday
night, the Blshon Shirt Company went,
down in defeat at the hands of the
Everett Waddey five. Both teams made
a new mark in high totals. Then came
the big noise, when the Cook Printing
Company and the Remingtons came
together There was some pin spilling.
The Remingtons had just received three 1
application blanks for the intercity
tournament, and judging from the,
scores made, they evidently thought
they were already in Washington. Inj
the second game they set a new mar*
for this city, when they totaled 1 082.
This Is a record that no doubt will stand
for some time. ?
The Times-Dispatch League played
their regular schedule, and put up
some close and interesting games. This
league is showing a wonderful improve?
ment this year, and many of the players |
are advancing fast into the class A divis?
ion.
The new Commercial League is
proving to be a great success, and all of ;
the players are taking the game serious?
ly. Each mat< h is hotly f-ontested for.
Ureat rivalry has already begun to exist
among the players.
Monday nigh' the strong Petersburg
team, which fought the locals to a Bn
jgh in Petersburg last Monday night,
will be over to play a return series.
They have sent word that they will be
well fortified, and will try to attempt

Notes of Players.
Williams is certainly making a fine
showing this year.
That boy Wade is a naturai-bo-n
bowler, and he now has a lug average
to his credit.
Deay is badly missed by the Cook
Printing Company team, and it is
hoped that he will soon be in the ranks
