Drillers had be come so practiced that they had tho machinery under perfect control, and tho well did not gush. This is on tho Spindlo Top company's property, 200 foot from tho Lucas gusher. D. H. At tho local oil exchange thoro was activity in trading la stocks yesterday. Texas and Pacitlc, which clos ed Saturday at $1.20, started out yesterday morning at $1.25 bid, and during the first fow hours it sold at $1.10, with but few sales between, thcro being but little stock on the market around those prices. Closed last uight at $1.30, with absolutely no stock on the market for sale. Geyser was quoted at $110 bid at opening, aud remained very quiet until near tho close of tho duy.s business, when all stock dlTorod under 40 was takon, the close being 40 asked. Thcro was somo trading in Grace, in fact several thousand of those shares changed hands at 1." cents, and one sale at 18 cents; market closed at 18 cents asked. Slaughter-Mastcrson was firm at 35, -with practically no stock on the market at those prices. Madelino was still tho favor ito among trqasury, stocks, being placed on tho market at ten cents. Spindle Top was quoted early $2.75. but on receipt of informa tion that thoy had struck oil in the afternoon, all offers wore withdrawn, and thore was noth ing lor sale. Fort Worth Oil company stock was very firm at 35, with a good deal of stock changing hands at thosoprices. Thocloso, however, was at 35 asked. A number of shares of Pipo Line company stock was bought on tho exchange at 75 cents. Anchor property was traded in freely at 18 cents, as was also tho Drillers. AI'KIL 21. Jones. TALKS WITH I.UOAKOO. Agulnalilo Makes Further Protesta tions At rianlla. Manila, April 21. A repre sentative of tho Associated Press visited Emllio Agulnaldo at 50 Solan street, whoro he was re moved from tho Malacanan, aud found him in a largo room up stairs, furnished with a table, a typewriting machine, three settees aud twenty chairs. His wife, who was entertaining a number of Filipino women friends, sat at ouo cud of the room, while Aguinuldo, smoking a cigar and chatting with Benito Lcgardo, occupied the opposite corner. Others present were Lieuten ant Colonel John S. Mallory of tho Forty-tlrst volunteer iufan try, who has charge of Aguir.nl- do; Lieutenant Gilbert A. Youug- berg of tho Third artillery and Mr. Ficher, 'Jon. MacArthur's private secretary. Aguinuldo, whoso bearing was courteous aud dignified, was dressed in white looked well, and altogether made an excellent impression. Legardo, who but recently re turned from the United. Stutos, was telling him about tho trip and Aguinnldo seemed intensely interested, smiling frequently and asking numerous questions Ho inquired particularly as to what President McKiuloy said and seemed anxious to know what wan thought of him in tho United Suites. He was rather reluctant to talk for publication aud considered every question carefully beforo answering. Ho explained that sinco tho dissolution of tho insurgent congress and tho declaration of guerilla warfare, the chiefs had operated to all iutents aud pur poses independently thoy recog nized him us commander-in-chief sending him reports occasion ally, and ho issued some orders, but for tho last soven months communication had been difficult and ho had been almost discon nected. "I am now urging in tho strongest possiblo manner," said Aguinaldo, "that all insur gents should surrender and swear allegiance to the United States." Ho expresses tho opinion that Tinio, Lusban, Mulvur and other representative insurgents will surrender as soon us thoy come to understand tho nature of the amnesty offered them. Ho said ho hoped that when the work of pacification was comploto and conditions wero settled tho pris onous in Guam would bo re leased. After referring in grateful terms to tho courteous treat ment accorded hlrn by tho mili tary authorities, ho declared his convictions that tho civil govern meat which would folio a i ndfi cutioti, would realize tho highest hopes of the Filipino people. When questioned regarding tho hopo that ho would visit tho United Stutos, ho replied that hu would like to do so, but had made no plans yot, placing him self entirely at tho disposal of the United States ;rvornmont. John Leonard superintendent of tho Hiwassco Mining company, while hunting near Loudon, Tenn., today, was shot bv a ne gro named Luka Hackes, and is not expected to hvo as a result, Leonard was shot from the rear with a shot gun the charge taking effect in the head.
