Saturday afternoon about 5 o'clock, as several Apache boys were coming north nlong tho Rock Island trnck, some one fired a shot from the rear of the freight train going south, as it passed the boys, nnd it entered tho right side of one of, the boys, passed through the body, perforating the Intestines and lodged in his left side. Tho other boys hastened to the city and sum moned aid for the dying lad. Tho boys who witnetsed the shoot ing state that they wero going north, and as the southbound freight train passed them one of the brnkemcn, n man about 36, slightly crippled, wear ing a dark mustache, stepped to the rear door of the cnboose and without a word of warning aimed a revolver at ono of the lads and fired. A scream proved the accuracy of his aim, for as the train rapidly disappeared to the south, a poor, 14-year-old hoy lay dy ing on the right of way, his life b'ood rapidly flowing through a rnggul wound where the heavy 44-calibc-r InT lot of the murderer had penetrated. A message to Fcrt Sill notifir-d tc officers ot the commission of the crime, and when tbg froight pulled up at Sill station the brakoman was arrested, and at once taken baric to Apache, whore tho boys who witness ed tho shooting idealised him as thr tnan who fired tio shot. No motive caii re ascribed for tho erlmo, which is without parallel for coldbloodedness and oruelty.
