Mrs. Ellen O'Donnell returned last night from a visit with her daughter in Mandan. Frank Simmonitsch, of the Farm ers and Merchants bank spent Sun day in Fargo. Editor Maddux came in from the east this morning and returned to New Rock ford. Ghas. Foster and wife have returned from their extended visit to their.old home in Michigan. Deacon lvinnear, one of the old time shoe dealers in Fargo and well known to many in the state, has passed away.' Geo. J. GrieblerJ returned today from his first trip for a piano house, and reports excellent success in his new line of work. Gotlieb Feickert went to Medina today for a two week's trip with a tombstone dealer through the western part of the county. JCharlev Rick has resumed his duties at the Northern Pacific baggage room, after spending several months on his claim. John Toohey is again on the night shift at the Northern Pacific ticket office, and Cliff Johnson now ha3 charge of the window during the day only. The Governor Sarles cigar, a big tea center, with a likeness of the governor in a handsome design on the inner cover has made its appear ance. C. A. Klaus, A. Blewett and M. P. Morris leturned this morning from a trip to Fargo, where they attended a big meeting of the Knights of Columbus yesterday. B. E. Field, one of the party of salesmen for the Wrought Iron Eange has been laid up for sometime with typhoid fever. He is now re covering nicely, and expects to be at work soon. A. D. Grant has secured the Mc Ginni* building on Fifth avenue for his new grocery store, and is now east purchasing stock and fixtures for the same. The location is an excellent one and Mr. Grant promises Jamestown an up-to-date grocery in every respect. W. H. Downs expects to go to Valley City tomorrow to see his old friend and ^comrade-in-arms, Chas. Davis, who is in the hospital there as a result of a kick from a horse re ceived some weeks ago. Mr. Davis served with "G" company in the Philippine war, [and was one of "Young's Scouts" along with Mr. Downs, who served with Co. H. In reporting the excellent perform ance of the "Tenderfoot" company, and the cordial entertainment of the Valley City visitors by the Ladies Clubs of the city, the Alert inadver tently failed to mention the splendid reception given to the company by the local Aerie of Eagles in their new and handsome lodge rooms and club rooms in the old Masonic hall. President Mitchell dcliverved a short but appropriate address of welcome, and the sixty members of the'com pany (many of whom were Eagles) accepted the fraternal courtesies ex tended, and contributed several popu lar numbers to the program rendered. Refreshments, songs and toasts con tributed to a very happy evening, which all enjoyed. The Eagle's rooms were handsomely decorated for the occasion, and the wives and sweet hearts joined in showing the visitors a real "oasis" in their big jump across half the continent. The managers of the big company said all would carry away only the kindest remembrances of Jamestown, her citizens, and their Eagle entertainers. Tuesday. Miss Nelle Rose has returned from Fargo. Judge Glaspell is holding court in Valley City this week. Mrs. Frank Eddy returned home today from an eastern visit. Dispatcher C. B. Brown left last night for a trip to St. Paul. C. A. Searle, the Dickey merchant, spent last night in the city. A. n. Sherman and wife expect to start on an eastern trip, Thursday. Mrs. Chas. Rick is expected home tonight from a visit in Wisconsin. Bronte Burgster left for a trip to the ranch south of Dickinson today. Martin Eiknian went to Cleveland today to IOOK after his farming inter ests near that place. It is announced that Clerk of the Court Weber will be appointed deputy sheriff after Jan. 1st. Rev. Father McPhee: Wednesday, Friday and Saturday are Ember days in the Catholic church. M. J. Purchase and Jennie Dietrich, both of Jamestown. The wedding was to occur today. Captain Ingraham has placed a new cigar case In the Capital Hotel office. He reports the holiday rush already visible in the big metropolitan stores. The Inaugural ball at Bismarcg will be held on the 6th of January and promises to be one of the most suc cessful events of the kind in the state's history. Bismarck citizens have charge of the affair. Dr. MacLachlan. whose date of arrival at Jamestown *as changed to Dec. 20, has again beep compelled to postpone his visit which will be definitely announced later. Good is homo from Oakes for the holidays. A horse disappear ed from a farm near Ypsilanti the same day, which afterwards returned and it is thought the animal was used liy Sanger in effecting his flight from this locality. The Limited Club gave a novel party last evening, which was called a rag time dance. The ladies appear ed in a!i sorts of old fashioned, unique costumes, and the gentlemen were similiarly attired. It was one of the regular dances of the club, and much originality was shown in devising the costumes, and a lot of fun was had over the affair. C. D. I?is skull was fracturcd his face and body bruised and lacerated and his right arm was broken. Veinon was unconscious and unable to give any account of himself. The injured man was taken to Minneapolis last night but no hopes of his recovery are enter tained by those acquainted with the nature of his injuries. How he was injured is reported as a mystery. Peter Schioch has moved into the new residence he purchased in the city, the old Cooper place, on which he has built a barn. He is an uncle of Fred Schroch, who is also a recent addition to the city. The report that a male patient escaped from the asylum yesterday, after being there but a short time, proved to be untrue. Willis Russell returned last night from Montana, where he has been attending to business for a couple of weeks. A trained nurse from St. Joseph's hospital at Fargo arrived last night to attend Miss Mary Flaherty, whose condition has been more serious for several davs past. Mrs. Ira Barton, whose funeral oc curred yesterday at Sanborn, was the wife of Dr. Barton and formeilr resided at I'ingree, where the family conducted a farm for some years. Dr. Barton is now practicing at San born. Two children, nurley and Sadie, are also left to mourn a devoted mother. Mrs. Barton was a sister of Mrs. O. A. Boynton of this citv. Governor White was remembered by the capital employes with a beautiful solid silver service, consist ing of sugar bowl, cream jog, coffee urn and tray, as the gift of officers and employes of thecapitol, who have worked with the governor during his term of office. The tray was suitably inscribed with the occasion and date of the gift. The day was the 48th birthday ol' Governor White, and for some time the movement to cele brate his birthday and at the same time present the governor a fitting testimonial of the time he has spent at the capitol as executivee of the state has been afoot.
