SERAPHS DEFEAT
COLLEGE NINE
ST. VINCENT'S MEN TROUNCED
ON CHUTES DIAMOND
COLLEGIANS IN GOOD FORM
Make a Creditable Stand Against the
Coast League Stickers and Es.
cape a Shutout— Manager
Morley Umpires
Los Angpies, B; fit. Vincent's, 1.
The Seraphs trounced the ball basters
of St. Vlncpnt's collegp In the rxhlbltlon
game on the Chutps park diamond yes
terday afternoon. The collegians played
c. fair article of ball, Fltzwllllnms nnd
Lane allowing the Coast leaguers a
total of Just five hits, while the St.
Vincent's squad secured three blngles
oft the delivery of Frank Hosp, the
Infant wonder from Oceanslde who
slammed 'em over for the Morleyltes.
"Bobby" Eager, the Seraphs' sub
backstop, appeared behind the rubber
for the college nine, but otherwise the
Intercollegiate champions played with
their regular lineup. Morlarity, the old
St. Vincent's man, assumed responsi
bility for the short stop territory of the
Eeraphs In the absence of "Jimmy"
Toman.
"Slats" Davis himself was billed to
Judge the balls and strikes during the
afternoon, but J. Ira evidently decided
to pass up the honors and did not
materialize at the grounds. Manager
Morley then meandered out to the
mound and endeavored to tell how It
happened.
There was no attempt to mob or
"soak" him when he completed his
work, and the general opinion was that
he has a great future before him as a
successor to "Bull" Perrlne.
The Seraphs romped around the cir
cuit three times on the college mlt
wearers In the first three Innings. Lane
walked Bernard, the first Angel up,
and when Flood hit to Fitzwllllarr.s,
the Catholic first baseman tried to force
Bernard at second. The pass was low,
howevevr, nnd both men were safe.
Smith sacrificed and Bernard was
caught napping off third. Lane passed
over a wild one to "Bobby" Eager.
"Bobby" made no effort to recover the
sphere in time to retire Flood at the
plate and Timothy ambled safely over.
In the second Toren flew out to center
and Moriarity walked, and went to
second on a passed ball. Spies rapped
out a double to left and Morlarity trot
ted over the rubber.
Flood was singed by a fast one, but
Smith went down on an attempted
sacrifice. Dillon ripped a single to left
and Flood scored again. Until the
seventh there was nothing further for
either contingent of diamond artists.
In that round the Catholics escaped the
shutout when Fitzwllliams scored on
Moriarlty's fumble. In the last half
of the seventh Fitzwllliams went into
the box for the Saints, but in the eighth
he was hammered for the last two runs
of the game, when Morlarity's single
scored Cravath and Moriarity followed
on Spies" double.
