An Ordinance of the Mayor and Council
ot the City of Los Angeles, declaring
their Intention to Improve a portion of
Alvarado street, and determining that
bonds nh.Mll be Issued to represent the
cost thereof.
The Mayor and Council of the City of
Los Angeles do ordain as follows:
Section 1. That the publio interest and
convenience require, and that it is the
Intention of the City Council of the City
of Los Angeles to order the following
work to be done, to wit:
Ist Tnat said
ALVARADO STREET,
I In said city, from the produced south line
I r of Santa Cruz street, lying east of Alva-
lado streat, to the north lino of Reser-
voir street, Including all Intersections of
streets (excepting such portions of said
street and intersections as are required
by. law to be kept in order or repair by
any person or company having railroad
tracks thereon, and also excepting such
portions as have already been graded and
graveled and accepted), be graded and
graveled to the official grade In accord-
ance with the plans and profile on file In
the office of the City Engineer and spec-
ifications for the construction of grav-
eled streets. Class A, in the City of Los
Angeles, on file In the office of the City
Clerk of said city, said specifications be-
ing No. 2S (New Series).
2d. That a cement curb be constructed
along each Una of the roadway of said
Alvarado street, from the produced south
line of Santa Crux street, lying east of
Alvarado street to the north line of Res-
ervoir street (excepting along such
portions of the line of said roadway upon
which a cement or granite curb has al-
ready been constructed to the official line
and grade), in accordance with specifi-
cations for constructing cement curbs on
file in the office of the City Clerk, said
specifications being No. 22 (New Series).
3d. That a cement sidewalk five (5) feet
In width be constructed along the east
side of said Alvarado street from the north
line of Santa Cruz street lying east of Al-
varado street to the north line of Sunset
boulevard; and along the west side of Al-
varado street, from the south line of Sun-
Bet boulevard to the north line of Reser-
voir street (excepting such portions
ot said street between said points along
which a cement or asphalt sidewalk five
(5) feet in width has been constructed to
the official lino and grade), said sidewalk
to be constructed in accordance with
specifications for constructing cement
sidewalks on file in the office of the City
Clerk of said city, said specifications be-
ing No. 23 (New Series).
4th. That a cobble-paved gutter be con-
structed along each line of the roadway
of said Alvarado street from the pro-
duced south line of Santa Cruz street,
lying east of Alvarado street, to the north
line of Reservoir street and along each
side of Alvarado street, across Santa
Cruz street (lying east of Alvarado street,
Ivers avenue, and across each Inter-
secting alley between the produced south
line of Santa Cruz street, lying east of
Alvarado street and the north line ot Res-
ervoir street (excepting along such
portions of the line of said roadway
along which a cement or granite gutter
has already been constructed to the
official line and grade, and also excepting
such portions of said street and intersec-
tions as are required by law to be kept
In order or repair by any person or com-
pany having railroad tracks thereon).
Said gutters shall be three and one-half
(3%) feet In width, excepting at Intersec-
tions of streets, where said gutters shall
be seven (7) feet In width; and said gut-
ters shall be constructed in accordance
with the plans and profile therefor on file
In the office of the City Engineer and in
accordance with specifications for the con-
struction of cobble-paved gutters on file in
the office of the City Clerk, said specifica-
, tlons being No. 7 (New Series).
Sec. 2. The Council of said city finds
upon estimate of the City Engineer
that the total cost of said improve-
ment will be greater than fifty cents
per front foot along each line of said
street including the cost of intersec-
tions, and it Is determined, In
pursuance of an Act of the Legislature
of the State of California, approved
February 27th, 1893, as amended by an
Act of the Legislature amending said
last named act, which amending act
became a law March 2d, 1899, that bonds
shall be Issued to represent the cost of
said improvement. Said bonds shall be
serial, extending over a period of ten
years, an even proportion of the princi-
pal sum of which shall be payable
annually, on the second day of January
of each year, by coupon, after their
date until the whole are paid, and to
bear Interest at the rate of seven (7)
per cent per annum, payable seml-an-
nually on the second days of January
and July of each and every year.
. Sec. 3. Ordinance No. 11,312 (New Series)
Is hereby repealed.
Sec. 4. The Street Superintendent shall
post notice of this work as required by
law and shall cause said notice to be pub-
lished for six days In thi Los Angeles
Herald.
sic. 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the
passage of this Ordinance and shall cause
the same to be published for two days In
' the Los Angeles Herald, and shall post
the same conspicuously for two days on
or near the chamber door of the Council,
and thereupon and thereafter It shall
take effect and be In force.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Or-
dinance was adopted by the Council of the
City of Los Angeles at Its meeting of
September 25, 1906, by the following vote:
Ayes— Messrs. Blanehard, Ford, Ham-
mon, Healy, Hiller, Houghton, Smith and
Summerland (8).

Ing certain work to be done on Summit
avenue.
The Mayor and Council of the City of
Los Angeles do ordain as follows:
Section 1. That the Council of tho
City of Los Angeles deems it to be re-
quired by the public interest and con-
venience, and hereby orders that the
following street work be done, to wit:
Ist That a cement curb be con-
structed along the north line of the
(roadway of said
SUMMIT AVENUE,
from the south curb line of Allso street
to the south line of Aliso street (ex-
cepting along such portions of the line
of said roadway upon which a cement
or granite curb has already been con-
structed to the official line and grade),
in accordance with specifications for
constructing cement curbs on file in tho
office of the City Clerk, said specifica-
i tions being No. 22 (New Series).
I 2d. That a cement sidewalk five
(5) feet in width be constructed along
the north side of said Summit avenue,
from the south curb line of Allso street
to the west line of Pleasant avenue;
and along the south side of Summit
avenue, from the east line of Anderson
street to the west line of Pleasant
avenue (excepting such portions of said
street between said points along which
a cement or asphalt sidewalk five (5)
feet in width has been constructed to
the official line and grade), said side-

with specifications for constructing ce-
ment sidewalks on file in the office ot
the City Clerk of said city, said specifi-
cations being No. 23 (New Series).
Sec. 2. The City Clerk Is hereby di-
rected to publish a notice of said work,
inviting sealed proposals or bids for
doing said work, and referring to the
specifications posted or on file, for two
y days In the Los Angeles Herald, a.dally
f newspaper published and circulated In
■ said city, hereby designated for that
purpose. Said notice shall require a
I certified check or a bond, either, as
! prescribed by law, and for an amount
not less than 10 per cent of the aggre-
; gate of the proposal. He is also di-
rected to post said notice with speci-
fications conspicuously for five days on
or near the Council chamber door.
V Sec. 3. The City Clerk shall certify
to the passage of this Ordinance, and
shall cause the same to be published
fot two days In the Los Angeles Her-
\ aid, and thereupon and thereafter it
shall take effect and be In force.

The Mayor and Council of the City of
Los Angeles do ordain as follows:
Section 1. That it Is the Intention of
the Council of the City of Los Angeles
to establish the grade of
CINCINNATI STRET,
from Evergreen avenue to Doblnson
street, In accordance with the follow-
ing elevations:
At the intersection with Evergreen ave-
nue the grade Bhall be 336.00 at the north-
west corner and 337.00 at the southwest
corner.
At a point on the north side 60 feet west
of tho west line of Evergreen avenue the

And at all points between said desig-
nated points the grade shall be es-
tablished so as to conform to a straight
line drawn between said designated
points.
Elevations refer to the top of the
curb, are in feet, and are above a plane
which is 255 feet below City datum

cause the same to be published for ten
days in the Los Angeles Herald,
and thereupon and thereafter it shall
take effect and be in force,

declared all sealed proposals or bids of-

And thereafter, to wit: On the 25th day
of September, 1905, said City Council
awarded the contract for said work to
the lowest regular responsible bidder,
to wit:
To F. W. Whlttier, at the prices
named for said work in his proposal,
on file, to wit:
70 cents per lineal foot. for grading
and graveling.
39 cents per lineal foot for curb.
And that said award has been ap-
proved by the Mayor.

widening of Sixteenth street in the City of
Los Angeles, in the manner contemplated
by Ordinance No. 11,191 (New Series) uf
eald city.
The Mayor and Council of the City of
Los Angeles do ordain as follows:
Section '1. That the public Interest and
convenience require, and the City Council
of the City of Los Angeles hereby orders
the following improvement to be made,
to wit:
SIXTEENTH STREET
be opened and widened between Arlington
street and Normandle avenue in said city
In the manner contemplated by Ordinance
No. 11,191 (New Series) of said city, ap-
proved June 19, 1905, to which said Ordi-
nance reference Is hereby made for all
particulars regarding said improvement.
Sec 2. That the City Attorney of said
city is hereby directed to bring an action in
the name of the City of Los Angeles In
the Superior Court of the State of Cali-
fornia, in and for the County of Los An-
geles, for the condemnation of the prop-
erty described In the Ordinance herein-
before referred to, and necessary and con-
venient to be taken for the Improvement
therein, and in Section 1 hereof men-
tioned, against all the owners and claim-
ants of said property, or of any part

The Council of said city finds

An Ordinance declaring the Intention
of the Mayor and Council of the City ot
Los Angeles to establish the grade of
Ivanhoe avenue, from Alessandro street
to the northerly line of the Montrose
Tract, as per map recorded in Book 6,
at page 170, of Maps, Records of Los
Angeles County.
The Mayor and Council of the City
of Los Angeles do ordain as follows:
Section 1. That it is the Intention of
the Council of the City of Los Angeles
to establish the grade of
IVANHOE AVENUE,
from Alessandro street to the northerly
line of the Montrose Tract, as per map
recorded In Book 5, at page 170 of Maps,
Records of Los Angeles County, in accord-
ance with the following elevations:
At the intersection of the westerly line
of Ivanhoe avenue with the westerly line
of Alessandro street the grade shall be
470.00.
At the Intersection of the easterly line
of Ivanhoe avenue with the westerly line
of Alessandro street the grade shall be
474.00.
At the intersection with F street the
grade shall be 479.50 at the southwest cor-
ner and 483.00 at the northwest corner.
At the intersection with Baxter street
the grade shall be 602.00 at the southwest
corner, 507 M at the northwest corner,
600.00 at .he southeast corner and 506.00 at
the northeast corner.
At the Intersection with the first angle
north of Baxter street the grade shall be
520.00 on oo th sides.
At tho intersection with Covet avenue
the grade shall be 627.60 at the southeast
corner and 631.00 at the northeast corner.
At the intersection of the produced
southerly line of Cove avenue (east) with
the westerly line of Ivanhoe avenue the
grade shall be 629.00.
At the Intersection with the first angle
en the east slie north of Cove avenue
the grade shall do 531.U0.
At the Intersection of the westerly line
of Ivanhoe avenue with the westerly line
of Apex avenue the grade shall be 536.00
and 535.00 at a point on the east side op-
posite thereto.
At the intersection with the said north-
erly line of the Montrose tract the grade
shall be 632.00 on both sides.
And at all points between said desig-
nated points the grade shall be estab-
lished so as to conform to a straight line
drawn between said designated points.
Elevations refer to the top of the curb,
are In feet and are above a plane which
is 265 feet below City datum plane.
Sec. 2. The City Clerk shall certify to
the passage of this Ordinance and shall
cause the same to be published for ten
days In the Los Angeles Herald and
thereupon and thereafter It shall take
effect and be In force.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Ordi-
nance was adopted by the Council of the
City of Los Angeles at its meeting of
September 25, 1905.

An Ordinance providing for the number
of persons to be employed in the office of
the City Clerk of the City of Los Angeles,
and for their appointment, and fixing
their several compensations.
The Mayor and Council of the City of
Los Angeles do ordain as follows:
Section 1. There shall be employed In
the office of the City Clerk of the City of
Los Angeles, beginning with the first day
of October, 1906:
One Chief Deputy, who shall serve as
Minute Clerk of the Council, at a salary
of $166.00 per month; one Deputy, who
shall serve as License Clerk at a salary of
$116.00 per month; one Deputy who shall
serve as Redemption Clerk at a salary of
$115.00 per month; and two Deputies at a
salary of $100.00 per month, each; one
Stenographer, at a salary of $100.00 per
month; one Copyist at a salary of $65.00
per month; and two Copyists at a salary
of $60.00 per month, each.
All of Bald persons shall be appointed by
the City Clerk.
Sec. 2. All Ordinances and parts of
Ordinances in conflict herewith are here-
by repealed.
Sec 8. This Ordinance is urgently
required for the Immediate preserva-
tion of the public peace, health and
safety; and the City Clerk shall certify
to its passage by a two-thirds vote of
the Council, and cause it to be pub-
lished once in the Los Angeles Herald,
and thereupon and thereafter it shall
take effect and be in force. • •
I hereby certify that the whole num-
ber of members of the City Council of
the City of Los Angeles Is nine, and
that the foregoing Ordinance was
parsed by a, two-thirds vote of said
Council at Its meeting of September 25,
1905, by the following vote, to wit:

The Mayor and Council of the City of
Los Angsles do ordain as follows:
Section 1. That the public Interest and
convenience require, and that it is the
intention of the City Council of the City
of Los Angeles to order the following
work to be done, to wit:
Ist That said
BANNING STREET
In said city from the westerly line of
Center street to the westerly line of the
Southern California Railway Company's
right of way. Including all Intersections of .
streets (excepting such portions of said
street and intersections as are required
by law to be kept in order or repair by
any person or company having railroad
tracks thereon, and also excepting such
portions as have already been graded ana
graveled and accepted), be graded and
graveled to the official grade In accord-
ance with the plans and profile on file In
the office of the City Engineer and speci-
fications for the construction of graveled
streets, Class A, In the City of Los Ange-
les, on file in the office of the City Clerk
of said city, said specifications being No.
26 (New Series).
2d. That a cement curb be constructed
along each line of the roadway of said
Banning street from the westerly line of
Center street to ihe westerly line of the
Southern California Railway Company's
right of way (excepting along such por-
tions of the line of said roadway upon
which a cement or granite curb has al-
ready been constructed to the official line
and grade), In accordance with specifica-
tions for constructing cement curbs on
file In the office of the City Clerk, sal'l
specifications being No. 22 (New Series).
3d. That a cement sidewalk seven and
one-half (7%) feet in width be constructed
along each side of said Banning street
fiom the westerly line of Center 6treet
to the westerly line of the Southern Cali-
fornia Railway Company's right of way
(excepting such portions of said street
between said points along which a ce-
ment or asphalt sidewalk seven and one-
half (7%) feet In width has been con-
structed to the official line and grade),
said sidewalk to be constructed in accord-
ance with specifications for constructing
cement sidewalks on file in the office of
the City Clerk of said city, said specifica-
tions being No. ,<Z (New Series). ■ ■'■'■M
Sec. 2. The Street superintendent shall
post notice of this work, as required. by
law, and shall cause said notice to be
published six days in the Los Angeles
lee! d 3.d 3. The City Clerk shall certify to
the passage of this Ordinance, and shall
cause the same to be published for two
days in the Los Angeles Herald, and
shall post the same conspicuously for two
days on or near the chamber door ot the
Council, and thereupon and thereafter it
shall take effect and be in force. ■- ■ ■
I hereby certify that the foregoing
Ordinance was adopted by the Council of
the City of Los Angeles at its meeting of
September 25, 1905. by the following vote:
