■When I read that Nat Goodwin wus belnjr sued fer gtvin! a
hoss a drink an 1 that the hoss died I at first thought that Nat
had stopped at a roadhouse an' while lickerin 1 up concluded that
the hoss needed a little Inspiration, too, an' bein' that the hoss
didn't hey a coppe.r-plated stomach he wus forced to cash In. It
wusn't so, though. "When I read further I seed that the hoss had
drunk some spring water near St. L,ouis an' that wus the cause
o' Its death. Tho hoss wus evidently from the country er it
wouldn't hey drunk tho water. Nobody nor nothin' drinks water
In St. Louis, so they Bay, at least It wus a hard thing to nnd when
Fuller an' me wus there, an' I'm frank to say I don't think Fuller
tried very hard sometimes. However, that's neither here nor
there; the gist o' the whole business is that Nut Goodwin is gettln'
a heap o' advertisln' out the affair which will be cheap to him,
even though he hez to pay a good price fer the hoss. Ruther a
poor way o' ndvertisin' though; jist as bad as the automobile
dealer who when sued fer divorce fer leadin' a fast life said he
couldn't help It; that his car wus so fast It Jist naturally took
him Into last ways. That's all nonsense. The kind o' advertlsin'
that does pay is the kind that gives a reason why. You should
buy amusement at a show, an automobile fer 1U merit or real
estate or every other thing because it's a good buy. Herald ad
vertisers give you the reason, an" they're safe to deal with.
