LATEST FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL REPORTS BIG INTERESTS IN WALL STREET IDLE Stagnant Stock Market Reflects Suspension of Operations on Large Scale CALL LOANS GO TO 41-2 Money Rate Reaches the Highest Figure of the Fall, but Re laxation Is Expected (Associated Press) NEW YORK, Nov. 2.—The stock market remained dull to the point of stagnation today, reflecting the sus pension of operations on a largo scale by the powerful financial interests which have fostered the upward move ment through the month of October. "With the advent of dullness and neglect there have omerged Into view various features of tho market position which arouse distrust. An example is found in the incident of the erratic fluctuations in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis .stock. The sale yesterday of a sngle 100-share lot of this stock at 61, following sales the previous day at 71 and an imme diate rebound to 70 gave ride to wide spread comment and criticism. This resulted in a request to the stock ex change authorities to record the bid and quotations for the stock were asked from time to time today. Prom these it was shown that after selling at 69 and 70 there was no better bid nt one time than 61 for the stock, al though none was offered at that time at leag than 68H- Previous to this •week the stock had not sold under 70 during the present year. Tho day's developments in the money market pointed to relaxation in the immediate future. A decline in for eign exchange rates here and a rise in tho New York exchange in Chicago both pointed to lightened pressure in New York money supplies from outside sources. The sub-treasury, however, increased its requisition for cash on the New York banks. The local call loan rate rose today to 4% per cent, making the highest of the fall season. Some strength was shown by the copper industrials which were moved by the predictions of early improve ment in the trade rather than by actual developments. The price of copper metal rose in London again. Bonds were irreguar. Total sales, par value, $1,688,000. United States bonds were unchanged on call. LOS ANGELES STOCK EXCHANGE Wednesday was one of the dullest days the stock exchange has experienced for some time. Exactly what ■coins to be the matter with the market It Is hard to state. All kinds of reasons are given, but the most cogent one stems to be that the public has been taking profits for the last couple of weeks, and that it Is now waiting before It goes back to the lower prlooa before go- Ing in again. The market on the afternoon call seemed to have a brighter undertone and a few more orders were on the floor. The morning call was noticeable for the dearUt of orders. GERMAN REMEDY CO. Room. 224-1 Sao Fernando Bld«.. 4th and Main. Los Angelas OFFER FREE SITE FOR $10,000,000 STEEL MILL L. S. Barnes, representing interests which, he says, contemplate erecting a $10,000,000 steel plant on water front age adjacent to San Pedro, reported yesterday that he had received an offur, of 350 acres as a donation for the site < f the plant. i The 350 acres are said to adjoin thd shoestring- strip connecting Los An geles with the sea. Those Interested in the building of the steel plant are said to have desired a 2700 foot water front age at present tide water. As the cost of w .ter frontage in itself would be a considerable portion of the cost in volved in the plant's erection, it i 3 more than probable that the eastern magnates will consider the offer of tha shoestring strip land In preference to buying water frontage. Mr. Barnes stated yesterday that tha erection of the steel works would be pin on the first day of the new yaar. Tie will leave in a few days for tha tiist to confer with those placing capi tal at his disposal for the building of the plant and it is then that the offer ■if the free site probably will bo ac cepted. Considerable interest in the project has been aroused throughout the har bor section as well as among the com mercial bodies of the city. It is real ized that the operation of a steel plant of the magnitude which Mr. Barnes' .•i-isnclates contemplate would be but an initial step in the bringing of other great industries to ljoa Angeles har bor, employing many thousands of workmen and consuming a vast amount of supplies.
