sugar, and in the polarlscopli test
which determines the saccharlni m
tents upon which the importer pays

An investigation of alleged "draw
-1 frauds at San Francisco is also
imminent. A preliminary Investiga
tion has furnished Information which
leads treasury officials to believe
frauds there "ill eclipse Frauds in Nevi '
Fork, which the American Sugar com
pany recently offered to settle for

from Washington that sensational dis
closures! relative to alleged sugar
frauds at this port arc believed to be
Impending cause surprise here, and it
\Vas tentatively understood that Hip in
vestigation made by the local federal
grand jury last spring- had developed
no evidence of any attempt to cheat
the government.
The Investigation, which lasted about
fen days, was conducted with close
secrecy by Special Prosecutor James R.
Knapp, who was detailed by Attorney
General Wickcrsham.

from an overdose of morphine.
Wednesday Baker said he had

While he was dying yesterday two
friends called to see him, but his
dog prevented their entering for
