for mo to make any reply to Gov

since written my name among tho
followers of Christ I would havo
felt more like coming up to the altar
of repentance t this stago of re

thegreateet cities n the world with
a type written defenso of tho most
cruel institutions of human de

was in Georgia that my poqr mother

in rnooBEss two eundped yeaes
Govomor Northern says that
miscogcuation by law will never
take place in tbo South But misce
genation in tbo Soutb bos already
taken place1 It has been on the
road over 200 hundred years Not
miscegenation by laws but by brute
forre which is the very worst form
of law
Who started it Not the negroes
I am sure nor was it the poor white
trash It was the blue vein aristo
oraoy of the South that broke over
tho fence defied all laws and tho
result is wo have black nogroes and
white negroes some of thorn as
whito aa Governor Northern The
increase of miscegenation in the
South is duo chiefly to throe causes
namely force financial persecu
tion and discernible willingnoss on
the part of both sexes of both races
One seldom hoars of tho whole
sale assaults that Southern white
men nro making upon colqrod wo

rising and jBettiog of the sun Go
South and count the penitentiary
born children whose mpthors are
colored and fathers white That
tells the story
Aside from force there iR a reg
ular organized society of white men
and colored women for whioh the
colored women are as much to
blamo ns the white men These
particular colored women have long
since concluded that they would
rather wear diamonds and ride in
oarrjages of their own than to chop
cotton or wash dishes for somebody
elso apd be it said to the discredit
of this class of oolored womon and
their white gentlemen associates
that they are Hying in olovor
POOB WHITES HOT TO BLAMK
The poor whites of tho South are
uot to blamo for this rsoial amalga

not associate Thoy mutually bate
and scorn each other It is tho
bluo yein aristooraoy of tho South
that f Is creating havoc with tho
morals and sooial affections iu

most alarmingly 1
I have been unable to ascertain
what ed GovernprNprthern o tejl

Southern courts that the white man
has Southern law is the white mans

It is often uoed tb protect tho law
loss and punish the lawful providod
tho lawless cro white and tho lawful
black It is thd dollar that yokes
tho negro to the stool of humiliation
and holds him with a grasp of oru

As to lynohing continued tho
speaker 1 would ask If lyuohing
is tho proper cure for assaults upon
women why do not tho lynbhers
simply lynch tho assailants and
lot lynching drop at thatt Why
have they victimized some 50000
others against whom tjiero wore no

An Awkward Predicament
At a funntion in Honolulu a short
wbile ago an inoidout happened to a
well known citizen which reminded
us of tho following story
Tho Mayor of a northorn provin
cial town recently gave fanoy dross
ball at which all the elite of the
town were present One worthy
aldorman who was rather stout
wore a pair of rather tight breeches
and in tho course of ono of tho
dances lie felt tho Beams of his
pants giving away Hastily seeking
out bis wife he told her of his di
lemma and bIip procuring a needle
and thread sought out an ante
room where she thought tlfoy would
be free from intrusion while the
breach was ropairod The worthy
alderman bad no sooner pulled off
his breeches than two ladies came
along the corridor with the inten
tion as he supposed of visiting tho
same room Mrs Alderman looked
round the room for some place in
which to hide her anxious spouse
and opening the first door sho enmo
to tbo said Quick John go in
here theres two ladies ooming
At tho same time pushing- him
through she olosod and bolted the
door and turned to meet the intrud
ers with a smiling face when a loud
knocking occurred on the other side
of the door and her husband fran
tically yelled Open thodoorl Open
