THE TIMES. WASHINGTON. MONDAY DECE3IB5R 3t I'm.
A FLlTR-RY IN A STOBE.
Brief Comtrrnnlliui Ilccnuae-
man Lot Her Unli-r.
(From the Philadelphia Record.)
Yesterday In an Eighth Street depart
ment store might have been heard Bti ex
cited Vcman crjlng: "Where's my baby?
Where1 my baby?" As she explained:
"The other children got out of the ele
vator, and I held on to the grip" U had
JIJ In lr-"and I lilt the baby sitting on
tbp seat. I thought thej'd lift her out. but
tbey didn't, and now she's gone'" A floor
man directed the mother to the lost-and-found
department: and there sat the pre
cious baby, contentedly cooing end appar
ently not missing Its distracted mother.
A bystander asked tho attendant If such
merchandlso often came her nay, and this
was her reply "Yes. Indeed; we get more
kinds of things here than the greatest de
partment store would think of keeping.
"What, for instance?" "Why. all kinds
of articles of -n earing apparel. Including
moth-eaten gloves and worn-out rubbers,
besides home-made rag dolls, fruit and
candy In large and small quantities, even
fresh and stale prctrels. and peanuts and.
cakes Tct dogs are brought here quite oft
en, and last week In one day we got be
sides the regular lot of stuff a box of fried
ojsters. a can of soup, a pound of coffee,
and a, cute little Maltese kitten."
Welril Effect of Clirinin Mince Tic.
(From the Chlcaco Tribune.!
With a ,iolent shriek the commercial reporter
of the Dailr Tread treed himself from the mcM

Sittinc up In his bed he wiped hia clammy brow
and shuddered vith horror. j
"Jle-clful heaven!" he ejaculated. "I tliousht
