JUL t ;'! ! 1! 4 ; 1 i .4 : ? fS 8ST A young Englishman, at Naples, was introduced at an assembly of one of the first ladies, by a Neapolitan gentleman ; while he was there his snuff box waa stolen from him.f The next day, being at another house, he saw a person talcing snuff out of his box. lie ran to his friend "There," eaid he, "that man in blue, with gold embroidery, is taking Bnuff out ot the box stolen from me yesterday.-. Do you know him ? la he not a sharper 7" " ''Take care,", said the other, "that man is of the first quality ." ; . . "I do'not care for M3 quality," said the Englishman,' "I must have my snuff box again : I will go and ask him for it." .-"Pray Uc quiet," paid his friend, "ani leave it to me to get back your box." Upon this answer the Englishman went away, after inviting his friend to dine with him the next day. He accordingly came, and, as he entered, said, "There, I return you your snuff box." : "Well, how did you obtain it ?" "Why, 1 did cot wish t J make any noise about it, so I -picked h.13 pocket of it." Some years since an incident oc curred in the "Boston Lunatic Hospital, of a very peculiar character. A mother and daughter both became inmates, and were placed in the same story of the building, where they had access to the same. hall. They met and recognized each other, though one had left tho other years ago in Ireland. Both had crossed the ocean, become residents here, and lost acknowl edge of each other's history of fate; both became bereft of reason, and came upon the public for support, and in a mad-house, - - . . 1 .. 1 1 i surrounded by those wno were Hopeicsiy insane, the child and parent met ; am though reason wa3 dethroned, and ead was there with a "mind diseased,'' ye nature triumphed over the clouded intel SoMJiind for a brief moment the partie: talked of t u e land of tlieir birth, . and then thv -separated from cadi other. - This incident is of romantic interest, sudden to Bait the most anxious inquirer afte extraorGinary adventures. t-The Rochester Democrat, in discuss ing the question of voting in camp, or by proxy, has tpe toiiowing : We have sr;eu . election carried on in the army of the Potomac. A regiment of Ohio' cavalry cast their solid vote against Vallandiirham, voting wffile in the saddle, and facing the enemy on the morning of a dnv r.f almost incessant battle. And that act of the Ohio soldierycitizens in loyal blue standing in line across the roa-1 at Brandy Station, each right hand grasping the ready sabre, which in an hour was to hew the rebels in Iront, and tnejeit de positing the ballot which was to rout the Copperheads in the rear it was one of the most sublime, and significant spectacles we have ever, witnessed, and hs;w truly Amer ican v : .-. .: ; 1 - tl! New York, in which she denies, in the most explicit and emphatic manner, the reports which have been go ing the rounds of the newspapers that she is employed a3 a clerk in one of the de partmental Washington. She complains, naturally enough, of the annoyance which the circulation of this, unfounded state ment occasions her.. It probab'y had its origin in the mistake of eomc correspon dent not so familiar with her personal appearance as he supposed himself to be, and ha3 been f thoughtlessly copied ty ethers. E3, One evening, a clergyman gave out the hymn, which was in measure rather harder than uiual, and the deacon ledolf. Atits close, the clergyman said "Brother B will please repeat the hymn,' as I cannot pray after such singing." The deacou very composedly., pitched into another tune, and the clergyman proceed ed with his prayer. Having finished, he took up the book to give the second hymn, when he was interrupted by the deacon gravely getting up and saying, in a voice audible to the whole congregation : "Will Mr. C please make another prayer ? It would be impossible for me to sing after such praying as that.". iC Caesar has had the testimony ot ages to his bravery, and yet he refused a challenge from Antony.
