itt THE NEW LAID EGG.
I Bo gentle to the new laid egg,
For eggs are brittle things;
They cannot fly until they're hatched
And have a pair of wings.
If onco you break tho lender shell,
The wrong you can't redress;
The yolk and white will all run out,
And make a dreadful mesa
'Tie. but a little while at best
That hens have power to lay;
To-morrow's ejjes may addled be
That were quite fresh to-da
Oh ! then let the touch be light
That takes Ihem from the keg;
There is no hand whose cunning skill
Can mend a broken egg.
Ay touch it with a tender touch,
For, till the egg is boiled,
Who knows but that unwittingly,
It may be smashed and spoiled!
The summer breeze that 'gainst it blows
Ought to be still and hushed;
For eggs, like youthful purity,
Are awful when they're crushed.
I Considerable apprehension of a Fen
ian invasion from Vermont has existed
along the border of Canada, It is
stated that there has been an accumu
lation of arms at different places in the
northern part of Yermont. A dispatch
from North Troy, Yt., of Friday says;
Intense excitement prevails across the
; border. The Canadian militia have
been supplied with arms and ammu
, ' mtion, and- will go into camp to-day.
It is supposed that Fenians are mov-
' ing quietly into the dominion. Ex-
