DORSEY DILATES
He Attacks the Reformers but
Does Not Defend Himself
New York 21The Sun minis a let
ter from exSenator Dorsey to his
friends in which he gives what he calls
a collected history of the efforts to destroy
troy him Dorsey says the original
fight Was wholly political He write
The published correspondence between
Garfield end myself shows the reasons for
the animus of my enemiee in his cabinet
You know with what scorn I treated the
detestable idiocy of the suggestion that
such men as McVeagh end James at ould
be > made cabinet ministers to represent
republicans of those two great slates
Pennsylvania and New York neither
one of whom could bo elected magistrate
in the smallest bailiwick in his state
They cut no more figure in the polities of
the nation than the remotest fixed
tar upon the movement of Saturn
I feared Grant and Conkiing and Ar
hur and all great loaders whom I
believed to bo upright and in whom I
believed the people of the country had
confidence were to be ignored and that
political fungus pretenders were to take
the place of this sturdy class of experi
once and merit General Garfield in his
amiability and kindness of heart per
mitted McVeagh and James to read the
correspondence which had passed be
tween us as he afterwards told me
McVeagh and James had scarcely
warmed their official chairs before they
began the persecution which has just
come to an end and which has long been
detested by every fair and honest man in
the country Under a system of espoin
age before unknown to a free people and
unparalleled in any country the infamy
began > Nobody knew better than Mac
Veagh and James that I hud never made
a penny out of the poitoffica department
and that not a cent bed been paid to me
or to any one for me out of the public
treasury but with power that none but
those who have felt it can realize the
most miserablo creatures that could be
caught in a drag net snaked across the
mouth of the vilest ewer were seized
upon to rake and scrape tbe country to
secure if possible something that might
be turned into a charge against me Two
years of time and more than 200000 of
the pu blic money have been spent in an
efiort to wreak upon me the vengeance of
ambitious end miserable camp followers

Charnel Houses
Philadelphia 21Portions of human
remains found yesterday in a house for

opinion that they were probably the
remains of a dozen babies The authori
ties will make examination of another
dwelling on 60th street recently occu
pied by the doctor and it h thought it
will be another charnel house A search
of the premises ou Bristol avenue near
Fiftieth street occupied by Dr Hatha

the discovery of a small loathe satchel
filled with phials containing liquids and
powders Surgical instruments were
also found which the doctors wife who

nervous practice An account book was
found which covered a period extending
from May 76 to Juiy82 and contain
