SAYS JARBIDCE IS I
MAKING BIG CAMP
Ely Man Who Investigates
Conditions Finds Them
Reassuring
H O Herrick who went to the Jar
bidge district in the Interest of the Jar
bdcf > Investment company which Is
tonposd largely of citizens of Ely
writes home that after having been in
the camp several days Investigating con
dituns he is satibfled that it Is to be one
of opportunities for the careful investor
11 f sa > s
It is not advisable up to this time
for anyone to come to Jarbldge by way
of Difth or Elko Stages are running
from Twin Falls to Him Rock a dls
tame of S mils fair roads excepting
bad crossings at various creeks From
Rim Rock a road is about completed
to Jack Hole a point 3h miles from
JarbidKe From which point it will be
ome time before any passable road will
bi built Rim Rock is a picturesque
point overlooking 1 gorge some 1000 feet
deep which carries the east fork of the
Bruno river Jack Hole Is a similar
character of territory at the base of a
serb high mountain
From the RUn at Jack Hole can be
gem the canyon of the Jarbidge which
is on first sight a gruesome view of
bleak snow and steep ridges This fea
ture is relieved upon entering the can
son where the snow is mostly gone You
dls
soon enter the Jarbldge canyon and
towr a considerable string of tents at
the rivers edge where lies the center of
an unusual activity Long lines of pack
animals the hustling of newcomers rust
1 ng for locations and various other
Eights at once enthuse a person with the
spirit of the new condition
Mineral Dikes in Evidence
Prominent mineral dikes are plain to
be seen and more or less work is in
progress From various discoveries
ledges seem to carry commercial ore
The Bourne property gives promise of be
bg a very great mine Developments
Kill no doubt prove up any number of
1sa promising properties I believe the
signs of the times spell boom for Jar
hidgp and the close at hand leases will
soon be active and facilities will soon
work
L better to carry on development
Clmatic conditions have been severe
and the district Is more suitable for a
Rocky Mountain goat than for people
All these conditions have retarded pro
fiess Accommodations are plentiful for
fss for the
thing purposes The possibilities
adventurer are purely speculative and I
do not advise any one to come to Jar
bidge unless he be prepared to accept

Tis Said
At Cording to John Roundy who is in

Eureka Reporter Immediately after the

next few days but it Is generally under

ANOTHER ORE PROCESS
TO SUPPLANT FURNACE
ColoraJo Springs April 3A new process
of treating ore by electricity which if
prod successful will not only revolu
tomze treatment of ore but will render
aluable ast known deposits of low grade
ore In Colorado has been discovered according
tlscoeret
cording to John T Milliken of St Louis
president of the Golden Cycle company
While demonstration and perfecting of the
invention Is being carried on in the east
two local men whose names are withheld
are Interested In the company composed
mainly of St Louis and Buffalo N Y
men A plant is being erected in Well nd
Ontario for the experimental purposes
In speaking of the new Invention to

I believe there will soon be perfected
a new process that will successfully treat
all refractory ores as well as rendering
rrofliable ore now of too low grade to be
treated by any ofiw process I IH an
electrical process an1 no fuel will be
required Radium can be recovered as a
bjproduct The process is much cheaper
Iran any present system in use

The advantage of owning a home In
this city becomes more and more apparent
every year and especially so at this par I
ticular sason when the treas are budding
and the rich lawns and flower beds are
beginning to beautify the surroundings
Home owners always find pleasure and
recreation in beautifying their properties
which can be done with but little ex
pense while as a general thing tenants
pay no attention whatever to keeping up
the appearance on rented properties This
city is fortunate In being solidly built
The companies that have been Instru
mental in building and selling homes have
been wise enough to foresee the advisabil
ity of building solid durable houses
which combined with pleasing architec I
ture has resulted even after many years I
of service in these houses being as good I
today as when they were originally built
In a beautifully illustrated catalogue
published by the Salt Lake Security
Trust company there Is shown many
house some of which were built upwards
of twenty years ago The street and num
ber are given In each instance in order
that they may be inspected by prospective
home owners What Is true of this com
pany is true of the other companies en
gaged In the building of homes In this
city aid the result of having pursued this
policy for many years Is that Salt Lake
City has come to be known as a city
having more beautiful homes than any
other city In the west

ON WILSON MESA
Consolidation of Properties
Coincident With Shipping
Mill Machinery
Predicting that the Wilson Mesa placer
field ten miles east of Moab is to be
come the greatest quartz mining and
milling camp of the west the Grand
Junction News announces the consolidat
ing of the old Wilson Mesa Mining
Leasing companys property with the
Black Cat group both of which have
been taken over by C C Inman for
merly or Goldfield and M A Wilder
a2d W I Wilder of Grand Junction
with whom are associated some of the
strongest mining men of Nevada and
California The new concern I Is said
will at once ship a fiftyton stamp mill
to the ground
Within the week declares Inman he
and his associates have refused an offer
of 75000 for their claims in the Wilson
Mesa company and also an offer of
18000 for a threeyear bond and leas
on the same property the offer having
come from George Shorter of Denver who
in turn represented the Guggenhelms
The Wllders are well known In Grand
Junction W H Wilder being the owner
of the Oxford hotel The offer on the
Wilson group came to the Inman and
Wllders through a local bank
Associated with these men at the pres

who has made a large fortune In Nevada

mining operators on the coast is one
of them He will be In Grand Junction
shortly
shorty
The Wilson Mesa mining properties
were formerly owned and controlled by
Grand Junction capital The claims were
worked as a placer proposition although
there was evidence that there was a
rich deposit of quartz in the vicinity I
Is this quartz deposit that Inman claims
to have located Inman and the Wilders
and Inman and his coast associates now
control over 1000 acres in and about Wil

I have mined all over the west said
Inman and I can say truthfully that
I have never seen or heard of anything
like the richness of the Wilson Mesa

In that field this summer
I received a letter from Messrs Webb

district is wild with excitement The

News
nent shipper says the Goldfield
Mr Morrison stated yesterday that thus
far this month about 6 tons of ore had
been taken from the ground by the four
partners in the lease and that there was
every likelihood that twenty additional
tons would leave the premises before the
month ends The ore Is of an average val
ue of 35 to the ton and the vein will run
from two to five feet in width
The majority of the rock Is being taken
from a majori sunk from a drift from the
30foot level and It Is the belief of those
in charge that the vein may be depended
upon to go down since the present show

DRILL WORK IN OPEX MINE
Will Not Interfere With Regular
Development
Manager Frank P Swindler who has
been at the Opex property at Mammoth
during the week Informed the Eureka Re
porter that the new diamond drill which
was installed a few days ago on the 2147
foot level is working nicely This 3rlll
was in use for several months at the Dra
gon Iron mine and resulted in the open
ing of some large iron deposits in that
property Manager Swindler says that the
new drill will no doubt be a big help in
developing the Opex property I will en
able the company to sink below the water
level without going to the trouble of in
stalling pumps with which to handle the
water and at the same time the work can
b handled very rapidly and Inexpensive
ly The cores which are taken from the
holes as the work progresses enable the
company to tell the exact character of the
rcck through which the drill Is cutting
and If ore Is encountered assays can be
made to determine the Values
At the Opex the other development
work which has been under way for some
time will go along I usual

GREAT IRON BEDS
Vastness of Deposits of Besse
mer Product Difficult
to Realize
Only one who has been over the ground
can appreciate the vastness of the wonder
ful Iron deposits in the Bull valley region
of Utah says B C Farnsworth In a
communication to the Washington County
News Facilities for handling the pro
duce will make this section one of the
greatest Ironproducing fields of the world
and fortunes await those who will par
ticipate in its opening
The iron zone extends from Garden
Springs on the east southwesterly and
through a distance of seven miles of un
broken veins averaging from a few feet to
over a mile wide then dipping and again
cropping on what is known as Bull moun
tains and from there on to Cove mountain
The Pilot group which has been patented
some four years has a wonderful show
ing I Is owned by Messrs Canfield
Johnson and the Milner corporation This
group embrace thirteen claims The de
posit on Nos 7811 has a width of 650 feet
and on Nos 56910 the vein is about 250
feet wide
The Iron Is of superior quality second
to none in the world This may seem an
exaggeration yet the analysis shows It
to b thus The samples taken on the
Pilot group show over 6 per cent iron
with only a small amount pr phos eli
or sulphur all being classed Bessemer
iron There is no magnatite iron in this
section all being of the hematite class
The has
Milner corporation patented
some 32 claims since the Pilot group was
patented all showing good properties
There are some 8 claims in all and there
may be larger deposits when more exten
sive developments are done There are a
number of splendid places for steam
shovel mining and Mr Milner who has
been on the ground about all winter says
the deposits on Pilot Non 7Sll equal any

Provo April 3A contract to furnish
the American Smelting company

been secured by the Iron King Mining
company The contract calls for 50 to
75 tons a day This will necessitate the
employment of about 15 men The con
dition of this property is very satisfac
tory The tunnel which is being run to

NE INTEREST IN
TAKING ON COPPER
Low Stocks and Lower Prices
Cause Consumers to Be
come Active
New York April Consumers seem to
be taking more interest in the copper
market due largely to the weakness of
the metal There are some fairly large
inquiries which may develop Into orders
later on Consumers are seeking to ob
tain copper around 133 cents a pound
but several of the large selllngagencies
and producers are not Inclined to make
concessions
During the last buying movement sev
eral weeks ago consumers began to buy
copper around 133k cents and the price
was then carried up as high as 13
cents Sales of small amounts have re
cently been made at 13h cents a pound
but there have been some transactions
of fairly large proportions on a basis of
13i cents a pound for electrolytic
There was an Increased volume of cop
per buying yesterday largely as a re
sult of lower prices for the metal A sale
of 3000000 pounds for delivery in May was
made on a basis of iS cents a pound
The copper will be shipped to Plttsburg
The large producers and selling agen
cies are holding copper prices above cur
rent quotations They say that condi
tions do not warrant radical concessions
in quotations Also that the metal sell
Ing companies have no surplus copper
to speak of
Some buying was brought about by the
feeling that the Copper Producers fig
ures for March will show up much more
favorably than anticipated
