'"what does them letters 'MDCCCXCVII' mean?"
"They mean 'eighteen hundred and ninety-seven.'"
"Dolan," came the query after a thoughtful pause; "don't ycz
think they're ovcrdoin' this spellin' reform a bit?" Washington Star.
