considered the Mayors communication to bo a veto of the or dinance and the ordinance was passed over his head by a unanimous vote The provisions of the ordinance raise the salary of patrolmen from 80 to 00 per mouth Another communication from thc Mayor expressed the thought that the Southern Paclllc Railway company should keep In repair the viaduct over the companys tracks at West Twen tyfourth street but the Mayor said the railway company claimed In a let ter to him that the city should do so The Mayor thought it not right that the city should assume this responsi I bility and requested that time matter be given immediate consideration by the council In response to the Mayors sugges tion the matter was referred to the law committee and the city attorney VICE PRESIDENT SCHLACKS TROUGH ON SPECIAL TRAIN Salt Lake OcL IFirst Vice Presi dent Charles H Schlacks passed through the city on Sunday night by special train He came In over the Rio Grande by special accompanied by General
