TWO PUMPS
TtiROWINfi
WATER
Superintendent Kircher of the wa
terworks department states that the
more water pumped from the Weber
river the more there is to pump All
day yesterday a pump with R capacity
of 430 gallons per minute was kept
constantly at work and still the wa
ter poured through the gravel and
I quicksand to the trench in such vol
ume that another pump had to be
brought Into action
A pump having a capacity of 700
gallons per minute was placed In posi
tion this morning and two pumps are
now at work removing the water from
the trench It Is thought that by re
moving 1150 gallons of water from
the trench every minute the men will
be able to lay tho pipe for the West

PROTEST AGAINST
BUILDING OF DAM
I
Resolutions Are Adopted by Officers
of the Utah Lake Association
Provo Dec 22At the annul meet
Ing of tho Utah Lake association held
hero yesterday afternoon officers for
the ensuing year were elected and res
olutions adopted protesting against
the Intention of Salt Lake county and
the Salt Lake Canal company to con
struct the new dam In the Jordan
river with the same height of fill as
the old one
It was said that representatives of
Salt Lake county and the Salt Lake
Canal company nearly a year agi
agreed with n committee from Utah
Lake association to build a dam in
tho Jordan river at a point between
tho intake of tho east canal and tho
old dam It was further agreed they
say that the fill should lie four feet
lower than that of the old clam
Now however they claim that the
Salt Lake interests have announced
heir intention of building UK fill on
the name level as the till of the old
dam H was the opinion the
meeting that this would be unfavor
able to Utah county land owners as
it would retard the outlet of the wa
ters of the lake Accordingly tho
meeting adopted the resolutions pro
testing against this action to be pro
somed to the Salt Lake interests I
