FORECAST OF COMINfi
CONGRESSIONAL WEEK
Washington April 11Thc senate
will begin its consideration 0 the Ja
ne tnilff bill early this week and be
cause of the large number of changes
which have been made in It by the
senate committee on finance it prob I
ably will henceforth be known ns tho
PayneAldrlch bill I
It Is expected the measure will be
reported to the tsonatoon Tuesday but
the day cannot be definitely fixed until
after n meeting of the full committee
on finance tomorrow The bill an oiig
inallv Introduced in tho house has
has been under consideration at tho
hands of both the majority and minor
ity members of the llnancc committee
but so far there has not been a Jolntix
meeting to consider It The Republi
can majority has assumed the right
to Indicate the senates attitude toward
tho bill so that whatever amendments
may be suggested when it is returned
to the senate will be the result of
their labors
In nil probability the Democrats will
make little or objection to the re
porting of tho bill by the Republicans
It ls not expected a great many set
speeches will bo made In the senate
Most of tho discussion bv tho Demo
crats will be upon the merits of amend
ments which will be offered The gen
oral policy of Republican members will
bo to do very little talking The pre
vailing opinion is that no less than a
month will be required for the con
sideration of the bill by the senate
The house while the senate Is wrest
ling with the tariff bill will meet only
on Mondays and Thursdays when the
census bill as passed by the senate
will receive attention but little or no
other business will be undertaken
Speaker Cannon will begin to prepare
for the appointment of the house stand
ing committees which probably will bo
announced priors to the final adjourn
ment of the extra session
